Default What do you put in your binders?

I have 4-5 Binders, and a bunch of pages, but they are all empty. I find myself top loading most inserts, and at least penny sleeving all RCs. I like sets in the appropriate size boxes. Numbered cards and hits are in top loaders for sure, so what do you guys put in your binders? Am I missing something? I used to keep smaller sets in there but they eventually got taken out in preference of a box.

I've moved to putting all of my Twins cards that are not autoed, GUed, etc, or numbered to less than 25 in binders. Some exceptions for more valuable cards that don't fit those parameters, but I just really like being able to page thru everything, much easier and enjoyable too look at everything

I put all my GU and autos in a shoe box. My padres base and inserts go into the binders.

Base sets like Topps go in a binder (usually the fancy Topps binders they sell on their site) in addition to my player collections so I can look at the cards. 80's - 90's players did not have a lot of "hits" so the bulk of my binders are made up of epic shiny 90's inserts.

I put my sets in binders. I love the look, personally.

btw, did anyone see that guy selling every bowman chrome auto since 2011 for 4 grand and had them all stuffed into a binder.

Whatever sets I like. And the complete S1/S2/Update set every year.

Topps was on quite a '72 kick recently, so I did the Archives style (actually quite boring - all torso shots), the minis, and the Chrome inserts, and that got me to start ever so slowly on an attempt at the whole 1972 set that will be a fun chase for years to come.

I also like Bat Flip cards, those are pretty rare, so those go in a binder page. There are some other weird Memes I like, such as the rare card of a Pitcher in mid-delivery but with a smile on his face instead of an Action scowl.

And I think I will start putting my favorite 9 cards from any given junk-wax set I pull from repacks, giving each release just one page.

I have probably 10 binders I maintain, each has a label on the side and I print out a nice image for the front, here are the ones I have:

-Marlins
-Dodgers
-Yankees
-Cubs
-Key Rookies
-Legends
-Current Stars
-Don Mattingly (sorted by year)

And then I have a binder for each Prizm set (only set I build each year). Most of the ones above are in order by player. It makes it much more enjoyable to open packs and actually have a place for several cards, instead of just throwing them all in a box and moving on.

My binder are reserved for vintage sets and base and non-numbered inserts/parallels for my player collection. Especially like using them for the sets so you can look through the older colorful designs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

I use one for my PC like Kipnis, grouped by year with appropriate dividers separating the years.

Unfortunitly some people think that's ok. I would cringe if I saw that.

Yeah, it was definitely cringe-worthy, esepcaially because the harper was on the inside pocket - someone commented that the $1000 card always goes in the middle. It was pretty funny.

Also, I love the topps binders. I have some still from the eighties (in which I have 80's sets).

All auto's, refractors, etc, are in sleeve/top-loader/teambag.

Are you putting the cards in soft sleeves then sliding into the binder pages?

For the more valuable ones in the set, yes.

Probably a newb question, however, I notice a lot of people who are against putting stuff in binders. If I am putting base cards/sets in a binder, and its not a million pages like that BC Auto Binder on Ebay, what harm will the cards face? The way I am reading some people post it sounds like it there is some sort of risk to cards being put in them.

Thanks!

There are a couple of risks: The first has to do with the quality of the binder page. If not stored properly, the cards can still be exposed to heat and humidity which can cause the binder sheets to cling to the card or allow the card to warp due to humidity. The second risk is that when moving the binder and flipping the pages the cards can get bent by the rings or sometimes when the binder is vertical the end of the pages can slip beyond the binder and the corners can get dinged and, of course, cards can fall out.

Now, I use the nice ultra pro sheets, protect the more valuable cards with sleeves and store them inside my house. Thankfully I live in California and humidity is not an issue.

I have to say a set in a binder is a million times better than a set in a box. I wish Topps would integrate this into their numbering because you are always getting nine cards to a page and it is pretty predictable where they will fall (some people like me skip the 7 spot in flagship and leave it blank, some fill it in with 8). Heritage is sweet because they will generally group the cards together, like the league leaders, the WS and the rookies. It just awesome to flip through and see them together. Topps flagship, though, is kind of a mess. Stuff is all over the place, with the exception of certain numbers being reserved for star players (#1 and the '00's for example).

I have a few binders but less than what I used to own. I put my 1958 Topps set into a binder and am doing the same with my '57, '61 and '75 sets I'm working on. With those, I put all the cards in pages then take out the stars and put fillers in their spots and put the stars in toploaders.

I have my PCs in binders. But those aren't worth a ton of money. I am working a run of Rangers flagship Topps team sets from 1972 to present that takes up 2 notebooks. I've got my 2011 UD Texas set in a binder and my Rickey Dudley PC in a binder.

Also, got a few sets from my childhood/early collecting days that I remember and want to flip through occasionally. They are like 1987 Topps baseball (the one that got me started), 1990 Donruss baseball, 1989-90 Hoops basketball and 1989 and 1990 Pro Set football.
