Default $7,000 and counting for a Mike Trout game-used bat

Game-used baseball bats in latest Goldin Auctions sale include a Mike Trout bat used to hit four homers that's already hit $7,000.

I wonder why players sell all their stuff, I would think their kids would like to have it.

Their kids probably hate them and think they are very uncool.

You say that, but Trout could easily have 1,000+ bats in his career. Plenty for his kids, family, friends and enough to sell a few and buy a new car or two.

Now, I do find it funny that teams Charge the players if they want to buy their own jersey afterwards, and don't always give them the chance to keep the jersey. Sometimes first game jerseys will go for sale with no chance for the player to buy it before it hits the market. that to me is bs for the players. If I made the bigs, the first jersey I wore in a game would mean the world to me.

It's definitely a source of income for MLB (and don't argue they already make tons of $$$, blah blah blah). Just look at MLB auctions with all the game-used stuff. I remember when Bryce Harper was PO'd when the Nationals sold his GU jersey from his first opening day game where he blasted 2-homers!

Nationals sell Bryce Harper's opening day jersey against his will

I have a friend who is a baseball player, he is currently in AA.

He had to buy his jersey from the team at an auction (he is not a well known player) but I still think its bogus he had to pay the amount the public payed.

He should have at least gotten some kind of discount.

At least in the case of bats, the players often buy their own at the big-league level. (Unlike unis.) Since the bats are theirs, they can sell them.

bats and jerseys I can understand having many but a few players sell their MVP trophies and championship rings. I think Brooks Robinson sold a ton of his stuff last year. He even sold some old shower slippers!

For the older players it sometimes comes down to the need for money- at times health related. At times they don't have anyone in the family that wants their stuff or the kids have already taken what they wanted.

Some older players want to share their stuff with fans and they've donated the remaining item to the HOF

all jerseys and equipment are TEAM PROPERTY.

Do you get to keep your work supplies?

Jerseys, yes. Equipment, no. The team does not supply bats, shoes, gloves, etc.
