Ok guys, so I had a lot of mixed feelings on the Steven Matz Tallboy super autograph card. So lets see where opinion takes us as we move onto another piece. This one out of my personal collection. But let's say this wasn't fort collection, what would you guys say???

If this was a Brandon Phillips card or a Votto card or an A&G wood mini (things I collect) I would be mortified. I just don't understand why u would get this signed and ruin it rather than get a nice base card signed.

Ruined it but it's your card. If you want to rip it in half and make 2 cards you can.

I like the Matz being signed. This one looks awful on the patches.

You talk about value...are you planning on selling it or what? Do whatever you want with your cards but make sure you tell any potential buyers how the card was altered if you sell it.

I find it hard to believe that getting something signed will ever NOT ruin the value of the card

Edit- Unless it's a very low end card, of course

i think if you plan on hanging on to this card it's cool. it's one of a kind and i would imagine if you got it slabbed and authenticated at least one other person would pony up some money for it. though if it was just intended for a flip you probably hurt yourself in the short term.

personally i think if youre going to hang onto it with no intention to sell it's pretty sweet. i don't think i would do it to any of my patch cards, but hey, its your collection and not mine.

Same thoughts I have as well. Another question to add, why don't you have one of the many great custom card makers create a custom to have signed in person instead of having 1/1's from licensed products signed? They could replicate the same thing and do a better job in my opinion.

It's generally accepted that getting IP autographs on a rare or otherwise valuable card will greatly decrease the monetary value of the card. So, as long as the person getting the card signed knows that ahead of time, and/or doesn't plan to ever sell it, I see no harm.

Where I think it gets humorous is when collectors get outraged or offended that a card that doesn't even belong to them gets signed (whether they just don't like the concept, or the card is of a player they collect, or whatever). I personally am an autograph collector (IP, TTM, and purchasing certs), so if I were to ever obtain a low-numbered or even 1/1 card, I would love to get it signed, even if it would be just to watch everyone get so bent out of shape over it.

Well put Steve!

I have a few numbered cards, relics, and even 1/1's signed. Since I wasn't going to sell or trade them, then I see no harm in doing so. In fact, I specifically got the printing plates (1/1) to get signed; Nick Travieso 2015 THM, and Kyle Waldrop 2015 THM. I love them, and they even commented on the card when they signed - which I think is pretty cool too.

I have a few refactors, and numbered cards too. The lowest being a Michael Lorenzen 2013 Bowman Red Ice #ed/25 signed. I love it! I think it's fun to get those different cards signed.

All in all I think it's completely okay to do whatever you want! Especially if it's for your PC.

Having someone write on it is just like trimming it in my opinion. I'm a perfectionist who admires the the rarity and unblemished condition of a 1/1. Any alterations make it unattractive to me. I would hate to see that happen to any of the cards I've been searching for for months, years, etc.

Could go either way. Like stated in the last thread, the amount of people who would be interested in buying goes way down, but there may be one or two insane player/team collectors who would pay a ton for it.

I personally think it's kind of neat, especially since there are some patches from Topps that were cut from an autographed jersey.
