Byron Buxton might not be demoted to AAA to start the season after all.

So will this allow the Gardner trade to the Mariners?

Or maybe they'll trade Chris Young instead.

Hicks has a higher ceiling of the two, JRM had better numbers last year. Makes sense for both teams I'd say as both guys are bench players (by skill I meant) but it allows the Twins to put Buxton in CF and the Yankees to put Gary Sanchez at C.

Twins plan to play Sano in OF, so hicks could go. Twins gm terry ran Sano says he believes Sano is athletic enough. #yankees

Whhhaaaaaaat? I thought Sano would stay at third. I know he wasn't the best at the position but I'm surprised they kept him there all through the minors just to move him to the OF in the majors. It would have made more sense to allow him to get reps in the minors in his time there.

They've been saying for awhile now they want to play Sano in the OF, but it makes no sense

People crying about Aaron Hicks... Aaron Hicks. What's an easier spot to fill Catcher or Outfielder?

Buxton. Rosario. Kepler. Possibly Sano.

Yeah I saw the posts on twitter to the Twins flipping out like they just traded Babe Ruth haha. I know they maybe liked the guy but really the trade isn't too far off, if it is ever off at all.

Twins did just trade Herrmann to the Dbacks. Murphy is def a net upgrade, plus they had depth at OF.

Once the Twins come to their senses, they'll put Sano at 1B and give his OF spot to Kepler.

Not going to happen while Mauer is still on the team under contract. And they won't/can't trade him so Sano at 1B won't happen for at least another 3 years.

lol Sano moving to the OF made this whole deal happen?

@FeinsandNYDN 2m2 minutes ago
Cashman first threw out the Hicks deal to Terry Ryan a few weeks ago. Sano move to outfield allowed it to happen.

Seems like Plouffe is safe at third now. Mauer really is odd man out holding team back.

C- Murphy
1B- Park
2B- Dozier
SS- Escobar
3B- Plouffe
LF- Rosario
CF- Buxton
RF- Sano
DH- Mauer
Bench- Vargas, Suzuki, Nunez, Kepler

On the bright side, Murphy is an upgrade. I liked Hicks but we are pretty solid in the outfield once Kepler comes up

All about making room in the infield while acquiring a solid catcher. they didn't need Hicks, the Yankees do especially if they try and move Gardner. It actually makes sense on both sides. Sanchez has room now when they are ready for his bat and on the flip side Park can come in easier.

I don't see it as a massive swindle/lopsided trade or anything, but I think it's a great move for the Yankees. They're likely losing (at least) Young and have organizational depth at catcher. At a minimum, Hicks is a cheap Young replacement, but he also gives the team options as far as moving Gardner if the right deal comes along. The thought of trading Gardner makes me sad, but it is what it is.
