Default Thursday Reviews and Experiences

Since I can't be at the National this year, I would love to hear people tell their impressions and experiences here.

Uh may zen!

First national for me. I went the first day with my son. Lots to look at. I can't wait to hold the Ruth game used bat tomorrow! Way too much to look at.

Case breaker pavillion quadrupled in size. Show floor looks a lot like last year at Cleveland. Similar people and stuff. Companies seem to take up more space, but most companies also seemed to have not fully started today. I think most activity ramps up tomorrow. I finally on a prize in a raffle. A plastic clock.

Not sure how, but I missed this thread. So I will just copy and paste what I wrote in my thread a few minutes ago.

Anyone pick up some cool stuff or have any input. I went and I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed. A little too much vintage for my taste. There were about 5-6 people that had crazy cards (That I can't afford, but cool to see). Then a ton of overpriced people that wouldn't work anything out. I even had a guy tell me he wanted $100 for a card, and literally has the exact same, serial # and everything listed for $80 on Ebay. At which point I am not even going to try to work out a deal when you act like I can't just go on Ebay and see it.

I did grab a 3 Color Matt Ryan Patch Auto, a few small Marquise Goodwin items (Still no luck on my rainbow pieces and such though). Hopefully tomorrow some more dealers will be there since maybe they were late/missed today, or there is more stuff that I missed that will interest me.

One cool thing I did find though, is a guy takes McFarlanes and does like his own shadowbox stuff for them. So I got a Dwyane Wade one with a Miami Heat embroidered patch and Topps autographed card. So I thought that was pretty cool. I will try to get a picture up of it later.

Anyone else have any positives or negatives. Any cool pickups or stuff they were looking for that they could finally grab there?

Edit: Anyone have any luck "negotiating" with DA Cardworld? They have a card I did see that I was interested in. They had it as $250 and in the 50% off showcase; so $125 total. Are they very firm on those, or is there a chance to get it lower, considering the card has sold between $40-60? I am okay with paying more than that, but not sure I'm about to spend twice the going rate.

Some good karma at the show for me. There was trivia at the Amazon stage, I won the first easy White Sox question & gave my prize of one unopened baseball card pack to a little girl sitting in the front row. I didn't even look at the company on the pack just immediately gave it away, she opened it and got all excited as she pulled an auto of someone current (Murphy I thought I heard her say). In a pic of Chicago sports media that I posted in this sections sticky pic you can see the back of the little girl's head that got the auto. Good going kid!

Afterwards I returned to PSA's booth to check if an autograph I dropped off was authentic. I won a storage locker auction couple years ago and among many sports items found an NBA basketball autographed by Kobe Bryant inscribed with his old number '8'. Tonight PSA certified it as authentic, wahoo!

REALLY WISH THERE WASNT SO MUCH VINTAGE. Had a nice day other than that I got destroyed on a preferred box, it was a birthday present from my dad though so I'm satisfied with it because of that. Didn't spend too much of what I brought with me too
