Default Parking at the National

I'm intetested to know what the parking situation is like around the convention area? I'm aware that I can buy a VIP pass that provides me with a parking pass for the week, however I am trying to determine if I need to. I won't be able to make it to the show everyday. Will there be ample parking? Is it an hourly/daily rate? How much ($5/10 range or upwards of $20)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx

Park across the street in the garage for $13. Lots of parking available. Can be slow getting out if you leave at the end of the day. Here is my secret to parking in that garage. I used this every day at Wizard World in August.

As you enter the garage and get to the ticket booth look over to the right. Often you can see some spots at the very bottom of the ramp. Now go up the parking ramp and then take the very first turn for the exit. You head down to those spots you just saw. Most people just keep on going up until they find a spot. They do not take the first exit down. BACK IN to any available spot and you are done.

Take your ticket with you and pay BEFORE you go to the show. This way you avoid the lines later. When you come out later you only need to travel one turn and you are out of the garage unlike all those that went up and not down.

If you're willing to walk a little bit, I believe you can park for free in the parking structure for the big outlet mall.

There is a lot for the El trains just past the underpass that is $5 per day. Short walk to the convention center.

Yep, I always park at the parking lot for the train (unless of course, it's raining or snowing or a zillion degrees out). Probably about a mile from the Convention Center. $5 at a kiosk (accepts cash and credit cards). I don't think parking is free for the outlet mall.

Depending on how you feel about walking, and probably depending on how much stuff you are going to walk in or out with, I would go with what the other people here said. About 1/2-1 mile north of the convention center between the two interstates you will see a parking lot for the local trains. Of course, by the end of the day after you have just walked around the convention center it may seem like a chore trying to walk back to your car. Just to let you know if this is your first time to the Rosemont Convention Center, the room is not carpeted so you are walking on concrete all day long. Even people I know who are a lot skinnier and in a lot better shape than me have their knees and feet killing them by the end of the day lol. If you don't care about the money though park across the street behind the hotels for 13/day like other people mentioned. There is a skywalk that takes you right from the garage and over the roadway into the convention center.

Oh yeah, just be forewarned that the walk from the convention center to the parking garage isn't that much shorter than the walk to the train station.

We didnt get charged to park at the outlet mall during the Fanatics Authentic show. It's a little walk, but it was free, so can't complain there. Plus I am only 23, so its not like its killer on my legs or anything.

4-5 hours - $9.00*
5-8 hours - $15.00
8+ hours - $20.00

When they first opened in 2013, the above was the pay for parking structure...not sure when they changed it to free parking, but it did not make sense to pay to park and shop....

They made you pay to keep people from doing exactly what this thread is about LOL. But that hurt business so they stopped it earlier this year. Now its free parking all day every day. I'm a local and the wife goes there a lot. To me it still isnt worth the trouble. Id rather pay 13 than have to cross through 2 parking garages and river road. 30 minutes of my life each way saved for 13.00 is a steal.

I will be attending the convention with my dad and we both have Super VIP tickets which give us the free parking pass. However, he recently had surgery and has a handicap parking tag. Are there handicap parking spaces outside of the convention center that are free, or am I better off dropping him off at the door and parking in the ramp?

Drop him off at the main door along the Cul-de-sac. Handicap still has to pay and there is no surface parking at the convention center. They do have hadicap parking near the elevators or skybridge on each level of the garage though.
