Default COMC's race for a mobile App

I always believed that an App could propulse COMC to new levels, it's now happening, vote now!

Want a Mobile App? Vote for us! | COMC Blog
----

Hi COMC Nation,

I applied for a $100K grant for COMC! If we win, we will apply those funds towards building a mobile app and increased marketing efforts. We need 250 votes to be considered.

PLEASE VOTE FOR US!

It’s one click past the click in this post, so should only take 2 seconds of your time.

Much appreciation!

Julia

So many other things for them to work on...

With that being said, I will be downloading the app for sure. Lol

Normally I would get annoyed by this kind of "feature creep" instead of focusing on the core business, but I think this might help expand their reach, so to speak. Seeing as I have a couple thousand cards in there or in process, it's a good thing as far as I am concerned. If they add some tools for sellers, great... I'd be happy with an app for buyers that maybe alerts when something on a want list gets added to the site? I mostly use my selling there to fund purchases for my own collection, so I'd use that for sure.

Sigh...more relying on consumers to fund their projects. Do we at least get history points that don't disappear for this?

The fees they've recieved from me alone since they launched are likely enough to have had an app developed, and I'm nowhere near the top seller list anymore.

Honestly I think this could be a good move for everyone. I use my phone a lot for comc and I'm constantly adjusting screen size to check boxes, type, etc. Because everything is so tiny in normal size It can be frustrating to use on a mobile browser. If someone who uses it a lot gets annoyed I'm sure some potential buyers are put off by it. If this dramatically changes due to an app, I think it could be big... Also better if we're not paying for it

I guess we will get paid more if we vote in 2 weeks than if we vote in 8 weeks....sad that it takes a gimmick like this for a company founded by a tech guy to get an app done....

???
I don't get it, first, you don't need 100k to "build" an app (if you are paying 100k you are stupid), second, you don't need a mobile app at all! All you have to is to make the current website responsive, that's it! It's not that hard!

whatever the reasoning or annoyance with COMC some might add, for those of us who enjoy using the site an App would be a great upgrade and if all we have to do is spend 30 seconds to click a couple buttons than please do it.

Exactly.

Have a few acquaintances in the software engineering field and apps do not cost nearly that much to develop, but it all depends and the depth and the company that is setting up the app.

I feel like the COMC site does have its flaws, but a website that houses millions of cards in its databases aren't you going to have a flaw or two? I think the depth of a company like COMC will be difficult to encompass in an app because there are so many moving parts, but then it brings me back to ebay and it seems easy again.

I have a specific set that I have been trying to collect, but the sets directory is messed up and will not come up when searched. I haven't checked in a few weeks, but highly doubt it's fixed. It's frustrating, but I have just learned to deal with it.

COMC is nowhere near as complicated as eBay, and eBay has had an app for years. Besides, apps like this are really just mobile interfaces for the existing website, they don't usually add anything new aside from ease of use on a small screen.

What is the set? They have been very responsive to error reports in the last month.

Just searched it again and it looks like the set is correctly placed now. I like the site quite a bit, but it is turning into a heavy buyer's site. I'd love to sell there but cannot see buying into the fee structure

Default on an PR Level

I don't know if I would publicly say we're looking for a $100K grant. In MOO (My Opinoin Only) it makes COMC look like a woefully underfunded company.

I think the idea of getting a grant is great but I think announcing the money involved is a terrible idea.

Agreed...but I guess they had no other way to get the required 250 votes....the 100K would be so better spent on manpower than an app IMO.

I wonder if they have backup plans to fund that App, or how many avenues they're exploring.
