Default bat knob cards

Bat knob cards... I know that they're 1 of 1, so everyone goes crazy over them, but I think there's something really morally wrong about these cards. You take a perfectly awesome bat belonging to Jackie Robinson... then saw it off???!! That's like a crime or something. Wouldn't you want the whole bat?? If someone gave you a Jackie Robinson bat, would you saw it off to make a card? I guess someone will say, they saw off more pieces and make more money out of them... but that's just ridiculous.

Couldn't you make the same argument about game-used jersey/patch pieces?

Congradulations!
You have just received a game used bat card of Jackie Robinson!
The material enclosed in this card is not from any specific event, game or season.
The "top" companies don't issue proof, provenance or anything that would prove them legitimate.
Who says its even his used bat?

The newer players like jeter and posey etc... Sure, ok they use a dozen bats a week, it's easy to just buy one with a MLB Hologram.

You could say some players autos ruin a perfectly good pen.

I see your point. Personally, I'm not really into full on memorabilia. I pretty much stick to cards. So I don't mind companies making bat knob cards. I am concerned about them coming out with more and more of them each year in multiple products and making them more commonplace. Like any good thing, Topps beats it into the ground.

What is crazy is that the bat knob cards are sometimes worth more than if you had the full actual bat.

Bat Knob cards are designed collectibles, IMO the originals in original state always is more desirable.

The last NT run of Bat Knobs had some horrible fakes from bats made 40 years after they were supposed to been used in a game. IF that keeps up I think people will get soured on them.

I just recently ventured into baseball heavily, and saw the bat knobs/barrels and thought it was cool. Until they were in all the sets. Then the appeal sort of goes away.

Can you provide the link or topic that this was talked about in, I cannot find it and was there any definitive proof? Thanks

I personally have no desire to buy full game used bats, so I would love to have a bat knob collectible card in my collection. I just don't have the storage or display space for a full GU bat in my house. Same goes for a GU jersey. Maybe one or two I could frame and hang, but with cards I can collect multiple players and have a piece of their jersey. Not as cool I know.

Personally I am a sports card collector, and full pieces of memorabilia don't appeal to me. I absolutely see why they would, and in theory a full piece should be more valuable, but I enjoy collecting cards so a bat knob 1/1 card would definitely hold more appeal to me than a full bat.

Here is the most obvious
Paul Waner Bat Knob 1 1 2014 Panini National Treasures Baseball | eBay

Here are examples from PSA, you make the call
PSA ProBatFacts™ Paul Waner

A few bat collectors I have talked to were amazed how poor this example was to be passed off as a game used bat.

There are cleaner versions of his bat that have sold with Mears authentication with different wood grains etc. Rickey Henderson used several diff bats and various wood grains/clr.

It could have been a store model type bat made in the 60's for example but it doesn't look close to any gamer I have seen. There is a huge difference from a store model bat to a gamer.

Also those markings are very specific and I have not seen those on any other gamer.

If Panini would just state where and when they got the bat it would clear things up.

Couldn't agree more. It's time for something new.
