Talking 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1

From Cardboard Connection:
The 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 base set has 100 cards. While the card maker has yet to reveal exactly what they'll look like, they did say they'll be done in a full-bleed format, so no borders. There are five levels of parallels including Printing Plates.

The product has multiple basic inserts totaling 90 cards. Foil cards and Stickers are among them.

Autographs play a key role in the premium insert portion of the set. Besides basic actor autographs, there are dual-, triple- and quad-signatures. Quads are done with a book card format that has, essentially, two cards connected together. 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 also has one-of-one Pen Relic Autographs that have pieces of the marker used during the signing. Autographed Printing Plates are also randomly inserted.

Other hits-based inserts include sketch cards and Medallion cards that come with bronze, silver and gold versions.

Stay tuned for more details on 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 trading cards as they're released.

Estimated Release Date: 12/18/15
Product Configuration: TBA
Price Point: Low- to Mid-End Entertainment Card
Target Audience: Star Wars Collectors, Set Builders, Autograph Collectors

Yeah, this will be good. Of course will be pushed back to 2016, which is not a bad thing.

I can't picture this one being pushed back. Missing the release date of the movie would be a horrible mistake

Won't be pushed back. I'd bet on that.

It will only have images from press photos and trailers and little to no plot information at all.

Look at the Lord of the Rings set. Very good coverage of characters in the first set but not much about the story. Collector's Update get's all the story coverage since the movie has been out and they can't spoil anything.

Tried and true format from Topps.

Nice to see this set officially announced and it looks solid! I think the new cast autos will really take off, and there is also room for the original cast to sign cards too. Basically a perfect storm for this set to be super popular. Topps is printing money with its Star Wars license.

Wonder if we can get any of the artists that talk here are confirmed for this set or is it way to early for that?

Good point! Is it possible that Topps has and gives some images from the movie to draw if they are sworn to secrecy? I remember buying a Star Wars photo storyline book of either ESB or ROTJ about a week before the movie came out that had many stills scenes in it.

Way too early. I don't think the invites for Chrome have gone out yet. Maybe to some artist but not all or none. Topp's MO is to ask us on 3 months before their deadline and then get us the cards a month before. With Last Chrome they did get us the blanks fairly early so we had a lot of time. I unfortunately took on 150 -200 cards, so I still wound up just getting done on deadline.

The great news about Star Wars VII is that it is being filmed in 35mm so, we will have tons of opportunities to pull more film relics. Cuz, I mean... who doesn't love having film relics be your box hit.

/end sarcasm.

I guess you didn't work on Crystal Skull. Limited reference, and there wasn't anything really spoiler-ish in the images.

I'm a bit torn on this. I'd obviously LOVE to work on this set, but I don't want spoilers.

As long as they don't print the Shizzle out of it and keep it somewhat limited, I'm in.

Yay another probable $900-1100 case, instead of the $1200-1400 cases. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, are the days of more reasonable $400-600 cases gone for good? Go back to eight box cases! The 8 box cases generally yielded the same result as the 12 boxes cases with less filler... two or three good sketches and maybe a good autograph.

AHN and ESB Illustrated are fairly similar to the later Galaxy releases yet the case prices (pre-order) nearly doubled for four more boxes. Jedi Legacy released in the $900 range but the market drove the case prices down. Topps seems to consider $900 cases "low end" at this point.

That said, TFA will be a hugely popular set, especially if the new cast signs.

ok thanks, still learning the world of sketches I still don't really get How you can tell what is or if there is a difference between an AP or an AR. The blanks that are purchased are they consider APs? But Ill learn heh

And on a side note, it'll be nice not chasing the big autos since masterworks pretty well took care of that for me. Hoping the new people will be more reasonable priced and hope they are willing signers and not stuck with a bunch of redemptions.

Not to mention all the boxes of older stuff and Rebels I have bought recently.
Man I thought this was going to be cheaper to collect SW with my son rather than baseball, basketball and football I was and still am collecting (cutback all be it).

900$ for 12 boxes is considered mid-low end these days. High end is about 300-600 a box, ultra high end is 1000$+. The hobby has changed and slowly effecting all non sports.

well thankfully stuff like agents of shield wasn't horrible at 650-750 area for a 12 box case, so there still some low end stuff in the 50 buck a box area Not a lot but its there.

It's a job I don't care about spoilers. I won't see the movie till it's basically free anyways. Sure as hell not going to the theater and sit with all the weirdo geeks who will be there.

I don't see why they can't. As part of a possible partnership, I read Joss Wedon's Avengers script at Marvel Studios a little more than a week after he wrote it. Ditto for the recent Captain America: The Winter Soldier script. I read it about a year before the release date and saw the rough cut three months early. I had no problem keeping my mouth shut.
