Default why I prefer USPS over FedEx...

While USPS has had weather related issues lately, nothing compares to what just happened to us today through Fed Ex.

So I paid a buddy to build a raspberry pi and gather all the stuff I'd need for it (and load the Roms for me). He next-day aired it through fed ex Monday around noon. It gets into Cincy this morning. After getting onto a truck and then going right back to the local facility (for whatever reason), it got back onto a truck around noon.

Well, my fiance has been waiting for this thing all day because it is part of her birthday present. She's on spring break from nursing school all week and wants to get some serious Super Mario World in this week. So when I told her it was due to be delivered by 3 p.m. today, she was over the moon.

Well, it gets delayed a bit. no big deal. Estimated time drops back to 6. That's fine. It's been drizzling all day, so the roads might be slowed with traffic. Well, that 6 rolls around and there is no knock or doorbell, and no sticker on the door saying we somehow missed them. Around 7:30 i go check the tracking since I know it's not outside the realm of possibility that it would be delivered around 8.

Tracking says:
5:37 pm Delivery exception LOVELAND, OH
Customer not available or business closed

Yeah, i doubt the effort was even made. Was on hold for 15 minutes with the local facility to see what happened, but nobody answered.

Just frustrated with them. I've missed stuff with USPS and UPS, but they at least made the effort and put a sticker on the door. Don't fake a scan saying we weren't home when you never tried, man. Next Day Air my ass.

TL DR end rant.

The spring weather is amazing (basically summer here in Florida.) Kick her outside and hide her video games.

We are not talking about a homemade pie, are we? I wish we had raspberries down south. I stayed with family friends in Minnesota about 20 years that had a 'U Pick' raspberry patch. I ate until I was nearly sick.

I always just redirect fedex packages to the local facility for pickup, that way I never have to play the waiting game or the oops we missed you game.

nah, it's pretty much a motherboard that runs a linux OS and is mainly used for emulation. this will have every NES, atari, SNES, Genesis, turbographix, and some GBA, N64, and arcade games loaded.

but it's just a bummer because i told her on monday when it was shipped that it was next day air and she was just so stoked to get that bit of nostalgia that i've been getting with some game cube games recently (plus there are a ton of NES games that i'm looking forward to playing again like Crash n the Boys street challenge, Super Dodgeball, Nintendo World Cup, Tecmo NBA Basketball, Baseball Simulator, etc...)

i just wouldn't have been as mad if they hadn't blatantly lied about making the effort. We live in a locked building with a buzzer (that works perfectly), and somebody was moving in and out from 4-7 p.m. because they had the moving truck out there and the door propped open. there was just no effort whatsoever.

FedEx has a bad thing about not knocking but leaving notes that they tried to deliver. My chair sits right by the door, I won't miss a door knock.

UPS and usps pound on the door (granted I went to school with the isle guys daughters and I made friends with the ups guy). They actually try!

ya I caught them once drive around my block, went to the block next to me. They must use GPS to track the drivers so he/she knew they could get away without actually dropping it off if they drove around the block.

Same sort of thing happened to me recently with USPS. I was scheduled to receive 5 packages that all said out for delivery that day. At the end of the day my tracking had been updated saying that I had moved and left no forwarding address. I was there all day and had not moved or put in a change of address at that point. It took about 4 more weeks for me to receive my packages as they had no idea where they were for a couple weeks.

i don't know if they have the vehicles lojacked or whatever it's called, but if you are going to drive to the place, why not hop out and deliver. you've done 90% of the work by that point.

that reminds me of a time when I was younger and one of my chores was to vacuum. Well, I hated it. I got it in my head one day to "fake" it. I noticed that the carpet would lay differently once you rolled the vacuum over it. So I did that for the entire area I was supposed to vacuum.

Afterwards I realized I did all the work anyway, but didn't have the thing on so I just basically wasted my time...

I find it strange that many people seem to prefer USPS/UPS over FedEx, at least from a business perspective.

I used UPS early on for business deliveries, and the service was crap one too many times. Switched to FedEx ever since, and have never been disappointed.

Personal deliveries, I don't really have a preference between the three.

I have something coming from California through FedEx that shipped Monday. I figured it would be here today, but apparently it hasn't even moved from their facility. Do they usually update or just show when delivered?

I haven't had any problems receiving packages from either USPS, UPS, or Fedex.

Sorry to hear of your issues.

I check my mail every single day. They had no explanation for why the carrier did that.
