Sanibel Island is a must.
Years ago I toured the Thomas Edison and Henry Ford winter homes in Fort Myers. It was actually very fascinating. Edison and Ford Winter Estates - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Living here I'll never understand why people visit because it's pretty boring and there's nothing to do here.
But like previously mentioned, you can visit Sanibel. I find it highly overrated unless your going to the beach. But you could visit ding darling wildlife. Be prepared to pay the insane $6 tool to cross the bridge on the way onto Sanibel. Could visit fort Myers beach, although the bikini clad babes you're looking for might not be out because it's been decently chilly. But if you're into little shops then fort Myers beach has plenty. I'd recommend Edison and Ford winter estates to out of towners. You can walk through Thomas Edison's and Henry Ford winter homes, see Edison's laboratory, go in the museum and see their inventions. It's pretty neat. It's not too expensive, maybe like $15-$20 a person if I remember from my last visit. If you're into more little local shops then visit Matlacha on the way to Pine Island. Idk how old you are but it's more geared toward the older crowd. Bunch of little bright colored buildings. Art shops, boutiques, etc..Has the most fished off bridge in the world as well. Also pay a visit to downtown fort Myers. Pain to drive and park on the streets but there's a bunch of neat stores and places to eat. I like how all the buildings look. Spring baseball training is pretty popular too. I don't watch baseball so idk if that'll be going on or not though |

Sanibel Island offers some of the best shell collecting in the world. If you're into that (or have someone to bring gifts to who is), it's a must.

Fort Myers is a nice quiet town. It has been a long while since I visited but the last couple of times I went there was to watch blacked out Dolphins games.

Stay at South Seas on Captiva Island and eat Red Velvet cake at the Bubble Room. If your into fishing, I'm a charter captain for inshore fishing. Golfing this time of year is great to, although the rates double. Have fun with the Traffic, snowbirds have migrated... If you have any questions, let me know. Been here all my life. |

Visit the homes of wealthy Fortune 100 executives. One of my college roommates father was the CFO of one and had a $10 million plus home in Ft. Myers.

I have a place on FMB - and I love it - but I can't comment on Ft. Myers the "city" as I've never been outside of the airport.
If you make it down to the island though there is plenty to do.
