/i know it is rare to find the '65 quarter in silver but does the grading make a huge impact? Not much knowledge on grading coins yet

Having a coin graded, especially by pcgs, is really the only way to buy coins. It's 100% essential. Coin grading is a massive world, FAR more complicated than cards. I would recommend getting to know PCGS if you have any desire to enter this hobby.

Buy the coin, not the holder. Easy way to overpay by simply only buying PCGS and ignoring legit places like NGC, ANACS, and even ICG. Holding yourself to one company is a good way to allow awesome pieces to slip through your fingers.

That's a cool coin either way. I've only seen a couple in person, never a mint state one.

Good points. The coin and the holder... Yes, you do buy the coin first and foremost. I have seen two highly specific coins go on the auction block with the same grade and one had more luster and fetched about 1,000 more. NGC and the others are good for certain things. Ancient coins, Morgan VAMs, and crossover potentials etc.. The hobby is still changing. Set registries are all the rage right now, driving up the prices of top pop coins. Then you add the + designation and things get tricky for population numbers.
As far the coin, it's something special, unfortunately it's not Mint State (60)just almost uncirculated (58).

I'm told there are 1964 Peace Dollars and 1975 dated quarters floating around out there, as well as 1974 aluminium pennies and 1946 mercury dimes.

Those are stories told over strong drinks at coin conventions.
