Default Why do people collect/purchase used redemption cards?

Just curious?

2013 Topps Series 2 Mike Trout Auto Relic Used Redemption Card | eBay

I have this card that I redeemed and waiting for but I am wondering why the used redemption card sells for so much? Is it because the card itself is limited to only 25, so there were only that many redemptions inserted? For player collectors, is it because you want both the redemption and actual card because you are a completionist?

Personally, as a completion to owning the "redeemed" card. As an example, I collect Jose Cruz cards and I have a 1997 Pinnacle Certified Cruz RC that was issued as a redemption. I'm searching for the most useless card on the planet and can't find it because it's stuck in people's junk boxes buried in a closet somewhere. I'd love to land one just to have it with the redeemed card.

I don't really go out of my way to buy them but I do have a couple that I have used for IP autographing in the past.

Because some people take a coin and scratch off the code until it can't be read then then contact topps and say when they scratched it off the whole thing came off so Topps sends them the card that really isn't theirs.

They can be just as rare as the actual card. Say Mike Trout's Chrome autos were redemptions. The redemption for his superfractor auto is just as rare as the card itself. And I'm willing to bet there would be a lot of people who would pay good money for just the redemption card.

Since there's a good shot you'll never actually see the card from Topps, the redemption card is as close as you're going to get to something awesome
