Default Welcome Back AJ Burnett!

Burnett signs a one year deal with the Pirates.....I love it! He did great with us the year before last....he's getting up there in age but we don't need him to be great, just good.

I think it's a great deal. Playing with a better defense behind him, the Pirates use of shifts, and getting out of that bandbox in Philly should be a huge help. And on a 1 year deal, we aren't tied up when some combination of Kingham, Taillon, and Glasnow are ready to move into the rotation over the next couple years.

He gets to work with 2nd best pitching coach in the NL Central who did miracles for Volquez and Liriano.

I like bringing him back, in addition to having a good year like he should (should the key word), he seems to really bond with the younger guys on the team especially Locke, he's been around along time so he's a good mentor for them

It honestly shows how bad Philly is, takes LESS money to leave that garbage team.

Burnett had Cervelli as his personal catcher in New York instead of using Jorge Posada. He also worked well with Russell Martin.

Nice. I think Pirates are trying to build a championship team.

They've come really close the past couple years.

Isn't that what every team wants to build: a championship team?!?

Always looking for an awesome card, regardless of team.

In Pittsburgh, this is still a fairly radical concept. The team's gameplan was the "drive for 75" for most of the early 00's. Those were some rough years.

He sucks,he's more concerned with hitting teammates in the face with a pie than covering first base.

I like this signing for Pittsburgh. I think he will do well there. I heard we were in discussions with him too, but I think he's a much better fit in the NL.

As a Pirates fan, this doesn't get me excited. Pay cut, he is lucky a team picked up his contract after this season.

Not sure where you heard that, but the Royals didnt even talk to him:

Braunecker said he did not negotiate with any other club, per Burnett’s instructions. Burnett only wanted to play for #Pirates.

There is a difference between 'negotiating' and 'talking to'.

I highly doubt his agent even talked to the Royals, sure the Royals might have called the agent but are you really going to categorize that as "we were in discussions with him"?

No.

I would believe the agent in this case.

He performed well with Pittsburgh, terribly with Philadelphia. Maybe he likes the Pirates organization and thinks they have a better chance at a title run than the Phillies (which we all know is true currently). Absolutely nothing wrong with this signing at all.

Of course! The Agent! How silly of me. They never lie. Sorry, my bad.
