Default Spectra singles sooooo low

With a box price at $299 and 12 cards. That would be $25 a card per box but I've seen base cards for a $1, gold card less than $10 what gives? I don't get how low some of these spectra cards are going for.

One of the few products this year that has actually increased in price. Probably due to how much they cut the overall number of boxes by I guess.

Because people don't care about over-done parallels and false scarcity? Some of the auto patches are nice but the product is totally overpriced and a bit underwhelming. And people have so many other things to spend their money on (or save for).

too many similar horizontal auto jersey cards per box makes it for more of a boring break. things from it sell for less because its not seen as a premium product despite the price, it looks more like a slightly higher-end finest, plus people are refractored-out at this point, after prizm, crusade, & select. now the 4th refractor product in spectra.

also people just continually list things starting at 99 cents and therefore things sell for less than they could. the nba ebay market isnt big enough for a normal average card to get 5-10 bids on it and go from 99 cents to 8-10 bucks or whatever.

if you take the lebron spectra base /199, it sells for about $15-$18 on avg with s&h. most of these start at 99 cents and get bid up. now lebron will have more interest than almost any other nba player, but if the avg card sells for $18, are you telling me it wouldnt get any bids starting at $19.99 or even $24.99? but what happens is most ebay sellers are either lazy or ignorant regarding prices, so they just start it at 99 cents and dont try to maximize their sale. then a few things sell for a little lower than they could or should, and then the price downturn starts because the next person will see previous prices and want to match that or beat it. so if people would start things higher and keep that consistent, all sales would be higher. thatll never happen because it would take the majority of sellers to do that and as we know and as i just stated most are lazy or ignorant so they wont do that. this isnt just on spectra its on everything, but it explains why resale prices go for lower than they should.

You really don't get it?

You should buy up then.

I think it's an average product. I haven't been watching recently, but I saw an Anthony Davis 1/1 patch go for $140. Something that should be up there as a case hit.

Golds /10 mean nothing in this stuff.

Personally I don't rate the design. No real chase cards.

But.... there are some fans out there. I'd prefer a Select 1/1 over any of this stuff.

its weird though, there was a production error which resulted in destroying a large amount of cards, hence the product is very limited and much sought after.

you would think if people knew this you would see prices jumping, instead they are dropping.

Too many products to begin with and most collectors go after lots of singles rather than one-by-one

According to several people here, it is a great product, a profitable break, the product of the year, yada yada.

I like the thick card stock, but $300 a box is laughable. I got a CP3 gold patch for like $40. Great product to buy singles I think, the cards look pretty nice in hand. If I was breaking wax though I'd be pretty disappointed.

I actually like Spectra, but I'm also not busting boxes or cases of it. It's actually been the only basketball product that I've enjoyed this season. NT and Flawless don't look like they will do it for me either. Hopefully Immaculate will come through again.

When such a high end product looks like a lower end product [select and prizm], prices will stay low on secondary market

I get it, the market is flooded with refractors but the price per box at $300 and low numbered is where I question why some of these cards go for way less than they should. I'm not complaining it's actually good since I'm mostly a collector mostly. I just don't see myself paying $300 for a box get 2-3 golds maybe a 1/1 and still come out less than the $300 for the box I paid for, lol.

One poster did mention the 99 cent bids which drives the initial market and everyone following suit.

It doesn't make up much. We are talking about cheap cards. It is like selling $0.99 is a bad thing when the card at most can sell for $5 (assume you list it $5 up front). Within those 12 cards in a box, we are talking about like 4 cards with that low. So, we are talking about $16 difference on a $270 box? I'm sure that $16 difference is not enough to turn a "bad" box into a "good" box.

The problem is the gold and those "hits". They are not high-end. They don't feel high-end. It is flooded.

But then, people just don't learn. There wasn't much hype in football Spectra.

I believe only the rookies have sticker autos. Maybe some vets do, too, but at least the majority of vets are on-card. As far as being ugly.... I agree for the most part, but there are some nice exceptions.

the overall problem is that in the modern card era, starting in 03-04 with lebrons rookie year, from 03-04 to 05-06 there were products upon release in the $40-$50 range. at that price you could get most of ur money back or better. then after this time period the 06-07 & 07-08 years had a lot of good products that were reasonably priced that people could do well on, and the resale value of the higher priced stuff made that decent or good also.

then starting with 08-09 the box prices really went up. previous years of bowman came out at $50 or something, 08-09 came out a little higher and then the good rookie class immediately made that product double in price, and then everything else was high. it seems like a fantasy now but when panini came in at 09-10, they had lower priced products somewhat, certified at one point was down to about $60 and some others in that same range. then blake blew up and caused another big price increase.

the theme is that a couple products per year are worth it and they are usually the lower priced ones, or the highest end, immac & flawless. the boxes in the $125 range are extremely hard to do well on. when you have a product like spectra that basically looks like a $125 product but is priced more than double, then you have real problems regarding value.

next years draft class (wiggins/parker) is a better draft class so it should have a better ROI
