Default Detroit Lions Thread

Figured it would be a good place for Lions fans to talk. News, signings, cuts, etc.

I am OK with other fans coming in here on gameday to stir it up a bit, as long as nothing is being posted to get the thread shut down, please.

So here are some questions:

Does Suh resign? I would say if we can't have him sign before the season starts, and we don't have a great record by the deadline, we need to move him for something. I also don't want to overpay him

Does Stafford bounce back to 2011? I personally like him, and think a new staff, and added weapons should make for a good year. I think Schwartz and Co. did him a disservice never working with his mechanics. Just always telling him he was good

Is anyone else attending the AZ game this year? I live here, and attend every time they come down. If anyone else is, maybe we can meet up pre game

Does suh resign? No. I think he is long gone. Losing will drive him away. I just wish they gave Nick an extension. He may be a keeper longer term

I have never been so excited about lions football as i am this year!!! Playoff bound!!! The team looks great on paper, lets hope they live up to it. I hope suh resigns, but scares me with calvin stafford and suh having huge contracts. probably wont leave much else in cap space for other key needs.

How long til the packers fans come in here and crap up this thread?

Hopefully nick gets back into shape and lions give him a deal, if he even wants it now.

I would be ok if we don't resign Suh. I like him, but like I said, we can't afford to make him the highest paid DT in football. If we aren't going to resign him, I'd like to deal him for something

I thought I heard he lost 20lbs & had been working on his conditioning during OTA's?

It's not that I "hate" the Lions, it's that I think a certain player on the team is severely overrated by Lions fans due to one good season 3 years ago

I think Nick just needed a wake up call. he is a great player. He just wasn't taking care of himself. I think we will be in the top spot come the end of the season and nick will want to resign. As for Stafford, they gave him every possible tool to make him the best QB this team has ever seen and I bet he will come out on top this season! oh yeah I don't forget Theo Riddick is going to make a splash this year!

That very well could be the case, but it's player who has been hurt for almost half his career, had one good season, and 2 seasons just filled with poor decisions, and has A LOT of his stats coming from just throwing into triple coverage and asking the best WR in the game to bail out his poor decisions.

He's got the arm talent, but he just makes some of the worst decisions I've seen from a QB, and the problem is that half the time he is just completely bailed out by Calvin and people look at the final stats and forget that instead of that 50 hard TD, it really should have been an INT based on the throw.

I've never seen one player whose stats are so predicated on chucking it as far as he can and having other players do all the work.

The closest thing I can think of was Roethlisberger throwing to Mike Wallace, his speed really allowed Ben to just chuck it and pray quite often

20, 16, 17, 19 interceptions in his 4 seasons of 10 or more games

And as I said in my previous post, how many more would he have if Calvin didn't make absurd catches when Stafford throws into triple coverage?

Just because it ends up being a great play and counts as 50 yards and a TD, doesn't mean Stafford did anything good on the play. If that is any other WR in the game, he has at least 5 more INT's each year, and at least 300 less yards and 3-5 less TD's each year.

Hopefully the title of the thread will not correlate with their season.

I have always liked the Lions going back to Greg Landry, Eric Hipple and his famous MNF game, Rodney Peete, Scott Mitchell and Charlie Batch.

And of course, Barry.

every qb has interception troubles. doesnt mean they are not a good qb. i understand that stafford isnt the best qb in football but i would probably take him over 25 of the other starting qbs in the league. you are right that calvin does help him alot.

i will now start a fire with my Lotulelei 1/1s.

Hey we can compare stats with Cam's for last year and they sure ain't any better.

I see some sick throws he makes also,he is still 25. You want to keep screaming he is just throwing it up to Calvin but year in and year out he is knocking on 5000 yrds and top 3-5 in a lot of his stats and you also fail to realize 3000-3500 of those yards do not go to Calvin. That is more than Cam throws all season! He and the team are young. They are improving but do make young mistakes. He has made a couple bone head plays but I see him out there trying to make things happen to. Yes he dropped 300 yrds last year. He threw for 5000+ then 4900+ then 4600+. What's cams numbers? He might have dropped some yards because we have a running game now? That might be part of it,or it could be because the only REAL WR we had last year was Calvin/Pettigrew/Bush/Bell/Durham.......all of them had key drops at bad times. He also has been under Swartz. I think he is getting some well needed help that most rookie QB's get from the start of their career.

I am always super excited for the lions season but with all the coaching changes this season I am especially excited. I think the new system and coaches for Stafford is going to make him shine! I do like suh as well but will understand if they cannot pay him what he wants. they could do a lot with that money.

Ok, let's not turn this thread into the Stafford-Cam thread. I mean, I am alright with it, as long as it is respectable

What?!?!

Stafford is not a top 7 QB, he has the arm talent to be there, but he is severely lacking in other areas that just don't allow him to be ranked that high right now.

He was ranked 16th in ESPN's recent QB rankings, and the write up about him is exactly what I've been saying about him the last couple years

Quote:
Stafford has top-10 arm talent and is capable of making throws that few quarterbacks can make. Frankly, on talent alone he should be in the top 10 of this ranking, but I have to put him down at No. 16 because he missed too many throws. He has great confidence in his skill set and consistently shows the ability to make stick throws, but he's erratic with his accuracy and ability to read coverage. I have no problem with a quarterback shifting arm slot when there is chaos in the pocket, but Stafford needs to have a consistent release point when he has a clean pocket.
He's a lower-middle class man's Brett Favre

Suh will not resign. It's unfortunate because he is a monster in the middle, but the Lions absolutely cannot afford him.
