Unhappy Potential Horrible ebay Selling Story

Was told by some friends here on blowout that I should rather post this here then the eBay section to warn people of my situation.

So I sold this card to someone on eBay. Actually he was the winner bidder. I send the card out like I normally do inside team bag between 2 cardboards. Today seller receives the card and he emails me that he isn't happy with the condition and would like either a partial refund or for me to send him another card of the same player to him to make up for the left corner of the card.

I email and I let him know that I cannot send a card to make up for the condition because I don't think that is eBay rules and I went ahead and offered the partial refund to just get it over with.

I don't know I scanned the card and I looked at it before it was shipped I am just getting a bad feeling about this sale. Wanted to put it behind me so that is why I am trying to send a partial refund but seems kinda odd he would ask for another card to be sent to him.

I just want to know what everyone thinks and I'll update what happens....

Offer a full refund upon return of the card. Likely the buyer is just pulling a shady move and trying to get part of the payment back, even though the card is probably perfectly fine.

Correct. I would also try to google his username to see if this is a pattern with him.

As a buyer, I would have made sure to include a picture of the damage, while also telling the seller that I would be fine with a full refund upon return, or a partial refund.

Reasons like this is why I have a new policy going forward and that is to have every card graded by BGS...Regardless of the grade.

You screwed up by offering a partial refund. When sellers like you give in to this BS demand out of laziness, you only embolden these thieves who are fishing for freebies. Now this guy is that much more likely to continue his little game with the next seller. If sellers would do what they're supposed to do and tell them that their only option is to send the card back for a full refund, then maybe these idiots would stop.

It's not lazyness. Sellers offer partial refunds to keep people happy, receive positive feedback, and avoid monetary losses.

These reasons are why asking for a partial refund is tantamount to extortion

And I didn't accept the partial refund out of laziness well maybe I did but it is because I just recently got surgery and I'm finally back online and just wanted to avoid the headache and just end it right away.

So I woke up today with an email from the seller saying that he really would like either 1 or 2 cards to make up for the dinged corner or for me to offer a full refund and him keep the card. I was in shocked at his request. I emailed him back saying that I'll gladly accept a full refund once card is shipped back to me.

I'm really surprised seller has 100% feedback and over 2000 transactions.

Once I am done selling everything I have I don't think I'll be using eBay anymore. The partial refund BS (the fact that eBay has an option to encourage the practice is disgusting) is disheartening.

But really, I still live in fear of the worst case scenario...

I sell a high end card. Buyer says they want to return it and mails me a different card back with tracking and signature confirmation. A seller in that situation is just basically completely effed.

There is always the possibility he's telling the truth.

Not really accusing him of lying. But he has called the card trash multiple times in the email and at first it was only a dinged corner. Now he is either asking for 2 cards or a full refund but he still wants to keep the card. That is what I am having trouble with.

My point exactly. Its not even a high end card only a 68.00 dollar one.

I found out that the buyer used to be a member here on blowout but he got banned.

No its guff1223

Found out by searching the player of the card I sold to him. He claimed to be a super collector of his so figured if he was here he would have asked for cards.

I may be living this nightmare today. All depends what UPS brings me. I'm done selling things over $50 on eBay. Can't be expected to risk being flat out robbed by eBay's flotsam and jetsam.

Let me know what happens. Good luck to you. I think I'm about done with eBay too. To bad I was barely starting and had just earned my top rated seller status

Ok, I know the party in question as he's lives 15 minutes from me. I know he is not a scammer (at least in the 20 years i've known him). OP, I'm PM'ing you now

Ok I'll be waiting for PM

Just got off the phone with eBay. They told me not to send any cards to satisfy the buyer. They told me to either agree on a partial refund or a full refund once card is sent back to me. They claimed they would monitor my account and keep an eye on the email exchanges (is that something they can actually do or was that just something the rep made up, idk). I voiced my concern that is a full refund is agree to and the buyer sends the envelope with another card or empty what would I be able to do. They just basically said to contact them immediately if that took place.

A friend of mine had this happen with a Tiger Woods auto a year or so ago. The buyer lived in a smaller town. I suggested to him that he might as well give it a shot and call the local police there and explain it and more or less tell them what happened. I didn't, nor did he, figure anything would come of it but whoever the officer was that answered the phone........was a card collector.

Long story short about a week later the Tiger Woods card was returned to him. No idea how or why it happened but if I had to venture a guess I'm thinking the cop called the buyer and had a chat and probably spooked him into returning it. Maybe the guy was "known" around town for other shady crap or whatever. Who knows. He got his card back and I suppose that's all that matters.
