Something fun. If you could go back in time and be given a table to sit with any player for one full hour who would you choose?
Mine would be Ty Cobb. Sit with him at a hole in the wall bar. Just the two of us. Would be interested to hear the answers he would give about his personal life and how he feels about baseball! Oh.... And also if he really killed a man! Who would you pick? What would be the questions you had? Player can be deceased or alive. Last edited by 2012 SP COLLECT; 03-25-2014 at 03:22 PM. |

I would sit and relax with Roger Maris. I would like to hear about the year of 61 and find out his true thoughts/feelings about all of it. (No asterisk, as I consider him the single season HR king.)
My second choice, would be Lou Gehrig.

Exactly who came to mind immediately. The next would be Clemente, though I doubt that he drank.

No question... Nap Lajoie for me. The other would probably be Babe Ruth. He seemed like he was always having fun.

Being from South Carolina, Shoeless Joe is my answer. I want to get the nitty gritty on the scandal! Modern players, I would have to choose Beltre. Just seems like a guy who would be fun to shoot the bull with.

He was a Marine (Reserves, but I'll give it to him), a great humanitarian and from everything I've ever read, an all around class act. I would love to just say "tell me about Parris Island" and listen for 2 hours while sipping on a nice Sweetwater 420. |

I'd have to say The Mick!
You know it'd be a good night drinking with the Commerce Comet.

It would have to be Babe Ruth. For one, he was a known drinker and could handle a few. For another he was at the forefront of a lot of current big issues. He was the first celebrity athlete, he was a HR hitter, he was social, he enjoyed life, he had swag and many other modern attributes. I would have to think about the questions I would ask. That conversation could go anywhere.

Definitely the Babe. Seems like he was a lot of fun to hang out with.
Close 2nd would be Buck O'Neil. His story-telling in Ken Burns' Baseball was outstanding. I could listen to him talk about baseball all day long.

Ryan Braun. So we could get drunk and I could beat his ass for being a filthy cheater.

OOOOO I GOT ANOTHER!!! Secretariat! So we could do the whole " a horse walks into a bar" gig! Then we would have free alcohol for the bartender being prejudice.

Rube Foster. One of the best pitchers in the history of the game, a HOF owner, manager, and league executive.

Yea def The Babe but second would Mickey, I'd love to hear anything Babe had to say and I'd want to talk about Mantles potential and if he understood just how good he was or could be without all the drinking and partying.
