So I have been dealing on ebay for years and never returned anything I bought. This has now changed. I recently bought a pair of cards that had a large amount of scratches. Being that it was not said in the description and its a high $ card I think its grounds for being returned.
So here are my questions... 1)Have you ever returned a card? 2)What is grounds for returning a card? 3)Do you leave a neutral feedback if you have to return the card?

just open a case on ebay, print out the label, get your money back and leave positive feedback if that goes smoothly.

Sometimes when big sellers like me list a lot of stuff some things slip through the cracks as we just keep scanning & listing for a few hours at a time. If they fulfill their end, a neutral or a negative feedback is not warranted. If they however, refuse to give the refund & escalate the case to ebay, than that may be grounds for a neutral or negative. |

I just don't leave feedback in situations like this. While I'd like to assume the best intentions of the seller, there's a pretty good chance that he knew the card was in bad shape, intentionally didn't mention it just hoping that the guy that bought it wasn't picky. So now you're stuck having to go to the trouble of returning the card and waiting to get your money back. I have a tough time rewarding the seller for that with positive feedback.
EDITED TO ADD: At the very least, I MIGHT would leave positive feedback but ding the applicable DSR's pretty hard and mentioning in the feedback the trouble I had. Apparently, as far as eBay is concerned, DSR's mean more than feddback anyways

So should I leave a positive feedback if the return goes smoothly.

I probably would, but I'd ding the hell out of the DSR associated with the issue that you had and I'd mention it in the feedback comment

I've only returned 2 cards so far but I haven't had 2 open a case yet I just hit the seller up & let him know what the issue was. If they have a return policy there's really no reason to open a case until they give e you a attitude or decline to return. I would also leave positive feedback if the return goes well and ding his "Accurate Description?" DSR

I've only had to return two cards in 1000s of transactions. I got a refund in both cases, and I didn't leave feedback as I viewed it as a canceled transaction. Plus, I wouldn't necessarily view it as neg worthy as I got my money back, and I wouldn't view it as positive, either. But even a neutral can make a seller look bad, and since I got the refund, no harm, no foul.

I just hate that I have to pay for shipping and insurance back to the person. I feel like they knew it was scratched and just hoped I would not return it.

is that new? I haven't had a recent situation to know, but they never did that before.

I'd only do this depending on the description. I had a lot of situations where I've listed cards as "NrMt/Mt" or better, and they've been returned once the buyer realizes that the card won't grade BGS 9.5. NrMt/Mt is a BGS or PSA 8. If that's how it was listed, then you likely got a card that was in this range (or better).

I am the seller of these 2 cards. At no point would I try to pull a fast one on you. When I purchased the cards, I never took them out and fully inspected them. That is my fault 100%. I have no issue refunding you the money. If you want, I will throw in a couple of extra bucks to cover some shipping. It was an honest mistake on my part

If all goes smoothly, just don't leave feedback as the transaction is basically nullified..or leave a positive saying you returned it without trouble..I've done both. I buy and sell, and if someone wants to return something, then I look at it like I do if I was returning something to Target. I expect and give 100% satisfaction to the customer.

I buy and sell on eBay. If an item is not as described and it's a high dollar item, I will return it and leave positive feedback if all goes well. However, I don't think a seller failing to mention a flaw is a problem unless the flaw is substantial, like a crease, and not visible in the scan of the card.
For example, if I were selling a Correa Bowman Chrome Auto, I wouldn't say "65/35 centering, one of the corners has a slight ding that's visible from the back, and there's a tiny print indentation on the front." I would put up a scan, say near mint or better, and that'd be it. If the scratches on the card(s) were visible in the scan, then I think you should hang onto the cards because you got exactly what you ordered. There's nothing that's more frustrating as a seller than when I give a buyer exactly what they purchased and they still complain about it. P.S. I just looked at the two cards you bought. Both scans show surface issues. It's not clear whether they're on the case or on the card, but regardless, there was no deception from the seller. If you didn't want cards with scratches, you shouldn't have bought cards with visible scratches on them. It would be horrible for you to leave a negative feedback or give low DSRs in this case.
