Well, I'm not, but an ice chest filled with three HD cameras and a GPS tracker are. My buddy and I have been talking about doing this for quite some time, and finally found the opportunity to do it.

I will be sure to post the YouTube video link here, once we retrieve the payload and watch the video.

If it's a balloon you do know that it can go hundreds of miles in any direction with a simple wind gust right???

Hence the GPS tracker. Hopefully the ice chest insulates well enough. Can't wait to see the footage!

We have done the research, and really, the furthest the balloon will travel in any direction is 200 miles. The shortest, no miles. There isn't a lot of wind around here, and even so, there is plenty of flat land within 100 miles of the launch site that we don't have any fear of it ending up in the Sequoia National Park.

It has a parachute, so if it does, the landing will be soft.

We are eagerly excited to get the footage, as well. The GoPro pointed out the bottom will be shooting stills every 5 seconds, while the two HD camcorders pointed out either side will get the video.

One of the coolest parts of it all, my buddy is the IT Director for a well known picture-to-canvas production company. The techs already told him that if he gives them a picture he likes, they will touch it up, print it out on canvas, and stretch and mount it for us. He has a 2-month old daughter, me, a 2 year old son and 2 week old daughter, so we will be sharing this memory with them when they're old enough to understand.

Launched it from Lemoore. Last time we saw it, it was heading Northeast.

Guilty! Hoping the balloon ends up in Russia.

Just a waiting game at this point. GPS tracker hasn't sent a signal back since 10:41. The good would be that it's still too high, the bad would be that the GPS tracker stopped working altogether :/
