This is my second foray into the TTM world, the first occurring when I was about 10. Long story short, sent out a few, only got one back, so I stopped. Now, 15 years later, I am doing more research on my targets.

Sent out 2 on March 6th, just got my first one back.

Now my question for the TTM'ers out there, Guy is a big name, but my initial plan was to get both him and Weaver. Should I go for the dual auto, or be safe and keep the Guy auto?

Find out Weaver's success rating and decide from there. That's what I'd do.

Yeah, I've looked there and at The Bench and he's got 100% success rate on both. My worry is on the mail's end (which begs the question why do TTM if you worry about the mail...). But I think I will go through with it. My hesitation probably was due more to just getting the card back and being excited to have it. Thanks for the encouragement!

Sent 3/24 - Received 3/30

Sent out to Charlie Sanders on 3/24 also. Other card sent out on 3/6 was to Brian Sipe, still no word however. Thanks for the look.

Success number three in today:

Stan Williams 1963 Topps

"To Steven, Stan Williams Pitcher (1957-1974)" (You can see the indentations on the years in person.)

Last bit was smudged, but the auto looks ok, for the most part. Really excited to get this one back. I really like the look of the '63 set.

Quick question for the TTM vets. When do you guys consider a card lost or a failure, not taking into account cards sent back unsigned?

You'll get lots of different answers depending on people's experience and patience levels, but I give it about two years before I write it off as likely not coming back...and even then, you'll still get a random one that's several years old once in a while.

A few years back before I really started doing ttm as I am now, I had sent out 2 cards to Mark Bellhorn (of the 2004 Red Sox) at an apartment address listed under his name not far from his recent team. I considered it a long shot, since I had my doubts about whether or not he still lived there. Long story short, I got both cards signed, postmarked from a completely different state like 3 years later.

If that had never happened to me (my first ttm essentially), I would say any longer than like a few months would be a write-off. But that having happened, I guess if you never get RTS than you never truly know if it's gone

After a decent break, I just sent out 3 more cards (added in OP). After a couple weeks, I just got my first success back from that group, Jim Hart on a 1975 Topps card.

Unexpected return today. Sent to Blaine Nye back in May from an old address (wasn't aware that I would be moving a few months later), and, since it wasn't returned in the first couple months after the move, I was not expecting to get the card back. Lo and behold, it was forwarded to the new address today!

If I were you, I would have sent 2 to Guy, then keep one and send the dual card to the other guy. Maybe get Guy in a month or 2 later

Now my question for the TTM'ers out there, Guy is a big name, but my initial plan was to get both him and Weaver. My worry is on the mail's end (which begs the question why do TTM if you worry about the mail...). But I think I will go through with it. rukastar Member Join Date: Oct 2012 Posts: 1,969	A few years back before I really started doing ttm as I am now, I had sent out 2 cards to Mark Bellhorn (of the 2004 Red Sox) at an apartment address listed under his name not far from his recent team. I considered it a long shot, since I had my doubts about whether or not he still lived there. Long story short, I got both cards signed, postmarked from a completely different state like 3 years later. If that had never happened to me (my first ttm essentially), I would say any longer than like a few months would be a write-off. But that having happened, I guess if you never get RTS than you never truly know if it's gone

After a couple weeks, I just got my first success back from that group, Jim Hart on a 1975 Topps card. Sent to Blaine Nye back in May from an old address (wasn't aware that I would be moving a few months later), and, since it wasn't returned in the first couple months after the move, I was not expecting to get the card back.
