Default Did I get a Real Mantle Auto or Not?

I grabbed two Mantle photos/posters with Mantle Autos and another Koufax at a local auction/sale. Grabbed all three for $80 thinking maybe they were legit. One has a scoreboard authentication... Was curious if they look real and if $80 was a decent price for the lot.

Appreciate the look. Do you know how much this type of memorabilia goes for? I am only somewhat familiar with prices on signed baseballs.

Well, everything in that auction from furniture to piano's were selling for nothing, the place was empty this weekend. I also don't know how much they should be going for so I am not sure how to gauge your answer.

Scoreboard has been known to sell fake autos in the past. Most of the time when their stuff shows up on eBay it gets taken down fairly quick. Don't trust scoreboard products. EVER.

Those Goldin (ScoreBoard) COAs were perfect for forgers. I think the legit COAs were not white like that, but more tan, and they did NOT have a hologram like that Mantle has.

not 100% true.. if you have an item that was manufactured by score board pre ken taking over (they have a huge line of limited star trek stuff) it's all good... it's when Ken Goldin took over (and another person I would only name in a PM) that the fake crap started. Very telling that he closed his father's business but opened "Goldin Auctions" not long after.

The hologram isn't actually on the CoA it is the auction sticker on the plastic wrapping.

Scoreboard COA doesn't mean its fake, but its the COA that a lot of counterfeits have been issued with. Their COA is very generic, and thats the problem. For example, say a legit scoreboard COA'd item is authenticated by PSA/DNA. There is really no need for the scoreboard COA to remain with the piece, so a 2nd item could be forged and put out into the market with a Scoreboard COA that never belonged with the item. On top of that and perhaps the more common problem, the COA itself is very easily duplicated and altered, and so lots of bogus items have entered the market along with bogus Scoreboard COA's, but you'd never know the difference.

So essentially, a score board COA is meaningless now. Plenty of legit items were issued with a score board COA, but it was/is the preferred choice for scamming for a long stretch when the company had a better reputation and people wouldn't question a COA from them.

Gotcha, very helpful answer. I didn't really expect to hear I had gotten a good deal. And the other two don't have CoAs so I was hoping to just see if people thought they looked real enough to spend the money on sending to PSA or something. Thank you for the solid explanation on scoreboard.

All three are fake and originate from S. FL. They won't pass PSA/DNA or JSA because they are garbage. The Scoreboard certs are fake and Scoreboard never used a hologram.

These are flooding your local auction houses by the hundreds. Luckily some people on Net54 have been contacting them and getting the word out.

Avoid if you don't like to own fakes.

Buy them if you are an idiot.

Edit - just saw you bought them. Good luck

Default Mantles look good, Koufax is iffy

have two balls, and an 8"x10" signed by Mantle. Those look exactly the same, would gamble with paying for authenticating. The Koufax could be OK, if I was betting, would say no. Have a ball and an 8"x10" from him, there are a couple of major differences in mine and that one.
