Who were the over achievers, cast aways, or players playing out of their mind in 2012?
I will start. Josh Reddick

I would agree with Reddick, Red Sox should not of gotten rid of him

Hell, Josh Willingham is flying under the radar as well. Kenley Jansen and Fernando Rodney as well. Take a look at Fernando's stats and tell me he doesn't deserve more attention.

For me RA Dickey. Reddick and Willingham where not a huge suprise, but they are definitely having really good years. Willingham had a good year in Oakland and that is a horrible place to hit. You take Reddick out of there ( hopefully not though ) and that guy adds 15-20 points to his average and probably another 5 homers.
I am also pleasantly surpised in Cespedes, he's gonna have a real good future. |

Edwin Encarnacion and Chris Sale.
Perhaps Sale shouldn't be as big of a surprise... he was stellar from the pen last year. But rarely does that kind of transition go so smooth. Edwin has been an ordinary to above average talent for most of his career to this point, but has blossomed into the elite player he was supposed to be as a Reds prospect. I'm a bit skeptical whether he'll be able to repeat it, but I said the same about Bautista and was dead wrong on him.

No one said Cueto yet. I also had low expectations on posey.

Chris Sale, R.A. Dickey, Adam Dunn, or Alex Rios.

How about Kris Medlen?! Dude has a 7-1 record, 1.56 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 4.78 K/BB (better than Kershaw & Verlander) in 45 games (7 GS) and 86 K in 106 IP.
Overall team success I'd say the A's young pitching staff (Anderson, Parker, Milone, Griffin, Straily) and the "Baby-backs" (Miley, Cahill, Skaggs) as Vin Scully calls them. |
