Ok, so when Topps had that sale a couple weeks back I bought 16 boxes of this, cause it was 1/2 price ($35) a box and Ginter's basically all I collect. Didn't expect too much, it's retail, but whatever.
Pulled like 3 no name autos, a "fabulous face flocculence," a "fortunes for the taking", 3 of the Flora cards (one was peeling apart, I think they're all eventually going to do this, but that's another topic) and a zillion single color relics. Not one single serial numbered card. Is that impossibly bad luck? No. Have I had worse luck when busting wax before? Probably. I am the king of bad luck. Do I think it's possible that Topps printed a bunch of retail, marked it half price, and threw in some extra non #d case hits so that no one would complain about the lack of serial numbered cards? I hope not. That would kind of suck. Do I think that the Topps employees are cutting up their gym shorts and putting the pieces in relic cards? Definitely, yes. I know I would. The point is: Anybody buy any of this and get anything #d? In this case, I'd really like to be proved wrong so I can stop going all Fox Mulder on Topps and continue to give them large portions of my paycheck. |

If you are busting retail for hits you are doing it all wrong. Retail is garbage and has worse odds than hobby.

I bought about $250 worth of 2012 A&G from retail because my cases were delayed several days. I only got 2 junk relics from blasters- nothing from the loose packs which must have been searched. Alot of damaged cards and repeats (even within the same pack) as well.
The only non-horrible retail experience I had was with 5 blasters of 2012 Bowman Platinum which were actually better than the one hobby box I bought. |

Not only is busting retail for hits a bad strategy but Allen & Ginter doesn't have a ton of numbered cards. Most of the cards that are sp's are not numbered. For instance: nno mini's are sp'd to 50, but are not numbered. The only cards that are actively numbered are rip cards, red autos & a&g red backs (hand #'d/25).

Well...at $1.45 a pack for unsearched retail vs. 3.55 a pack of hobby I think the odds start to equilibrate a bit. Really not the point though, I was very happy with what I got--2 case hits and no bazookas, no numbers or SP autos or relics? Just odd.
