Default What set shall I start with?

Hey guys, I'm a new collector from the UK. I want a set to collect with a heavy bearing on autos and memorabilia without clearing out my money! I was thinking Absolute Memorabilia or Prime Signatures but am open to all suggestions! With Absolute I would buy it by the hobby pack not the box. If you can help it would be much appreciated. (:

well if you are going to set collect, why buy hobby packs? Why not just buy the singles for the set that you want?

Oh sorry mate I probably phrased that a bit wrong lol. I want to buy packs for the excitement of packs, for me that's half the fun of it. I don't want to bust my bank but once in a while entering the lottery is what I want to do. I'd like to collect some Rams autos (particularly this years draft picks) though and I'd buy the singles for those. I don't want to finish a set as such but I want a product where I have a good chance of pulling some cool stuff. (although the chances are always stacked in favour of the card company!)

If you are trying to put a set together with autographs by opening packs any product will suck your funds dry quick, especially Absolute.

My suggestions are buy a box to go for the base set and then buy the autographs off of ebay. I would suggest Topps Chrome as a set to start with since the boxes are fairly cheap and Topps Chrome is always a solid product.

There is also 2009 Score Inscriptions as well for a cheap set. I believe that one has 5 autos per box as well.

Yes....so many subsets you could try to put together as well with all the numbered parallels and such.

2010 Topps Magic has many autos with games used relics and stamp cards. Along with SPs, Mini #/50 and more!

Thanks for the advice guys, I was sort of under the impression that score produced bad products but I don't know why lol. What sort of autos can you pull from inscriptions and how much will a box of Chrome run me?
Cheers guys

We hit this Robiskie in a group break- it was /6 I believe. But each box of this produces a nice variation of the different parallels.

How about 2008 or 2011 Panini Certified? There are some huge hits and a good mix of old-timers, rookies and current stars. For 2011 you can also try Totally Certified if you like the design better. I must've opened 6 boxes of 2010 Certified when the product was hot.

I watched a couple of breaks of Totally Certified, didn't appeal to me for some reason. Maybe the boxes were bad, I don't remember. I'm gonna go and watch a break of Topps Magic now (: Keep the advice rolling in, I really appreciate it.
