Default 3 Box Case break of Leaf Best of Baseball - the closest I'll get to a Jordan RC

I got excited after the first box, not so much for the second box and the third box was decent. Here are the hits.

Box 1:

Should I open it or sell it?

Box 2

Box 3

Anybody got any ideas as to the value of the 92-93 Jordan 9.5 or the Wade/Billups dual auto?

My girlfriend and I opened a case at Orlando Sports Cards South this past weekend, and she pulled that same 86 Fleer pack, but graded 9. After much debate and research, we decided to open it.

We could see the sticker on the back was Ewing, and there was a youtube video of a guy opening a pack with Ewing's sticker on the bottom, and he pulled a Jordan, so we decided to open it. There is a 1 in 11 chance of pulling Jordan. The grading is the key as centering is rough on the 86 fleer cards. I also read on this forum that if you can see the top card player's name, you can have a better idea if Jordon is in the pack. The collation gives a clue, as the nearer to J you start, the more likely you'll pull a Jordan. We tried everyway possible to see the top card but had no idea who it was.

Results: NO JORDAN. We got a pack that had last names with M's and B's, and then we had Ainge as well. We were excited initially as Sidney Moncrief was our top card, but then we went no closer than McHale in that direction of the alphabet. We did pull Barkley, the best card in our pack.

Overall, I could never see myself NOT taking a chance to hit the holy grail of an 86 Fleer Jordan RC, so I'd say open the pack. But then again, if you feel you need anywhere from $350-$700 (provided the Jordan sticker is NOT the bottom card), then sell it. If your pack has a jordan sticker on the back, it pushes the price up to $850-1150 on ebay.

Good Luck!! I hope this helps you decide.

PS Conspiracy theorists will say most of these packs were already researched somehow by the collation-sequencing information, the bottom stickers, and other methods. Would Leaf spend the money to have packs with fresh Jordans, or not? And would Leaf do it knowingly or not? I felt that was a lot of over-thinking, and I probably over-thought the whole "opening" process myself. So I asked my friends and family, and every one of them said "OPEN IT!" So I did...a thrill to say the least, but depressing when it was all over.

No doubt. Leaf "Best of Basketball...and some random crap we found cheap on eBay" is more like it. OP - At least the sweet 86-87 pack makes up for it in your case...very nice hit. Would love to see a video of the break if you do end up opening it.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. I guess the packesr figured for every 86 fleer pack they put in, they gotta put a dud in the other box.

I tried the gum one time is some random old pack of football cards, it was pretty damn awfull and it was impossible to get the taste out of my mouth. I don't recommend it.

I know how tempting it'd be but I would sell it. That case was a kick in the junk but at least the pack would get some of it back.

The sequence in packs of 1986-87 Fleer is known to switch mid-pack. Having a player w/ a name close to Jordan on top does not guarantee you a Jordan. It will increase your chances, but no guarantee. And the stickers have nothing to do with a Jordan being in a pack or not.

if the sealed pack would go for maybe 600, then it would be a good case overall, i guess, considering normal return percentage, but the jordan is pretty bad for a $300 product when it may not even be a $50 card, the rodman auto is a little messed up, & the dual auto is a nice card, but from a lower end brand, & older, and i dunno if its $50 either. most certainly not $75 i would think. especially with only a 9 & 9 on it.

jr24ai3 makes a good point. I opened a box back in the early 1990's for 2300 dollars. I got 4 Jordans rc's and 3 Jordan stickers. The sticker had nothing to do with what was in the rest of the pack. As for the top card and a pattern, that had something to do with it. There was a cutoff.........it could be mid pack or like 3 cards in......or like 9 cards in. It would change up to another pattern. So we didn't get the exact same cards in every Jordan rookie pack. That being said, it's probably smarter to sell the pack.

Putting base cards of players not from their rookie years seems stupid! Nice case though.

Unfortunately, the pack is only just over $300 itself. He still did better than most people with his case. This product seems even worse than most of the Razor/Leaf repackaged stuff.

I think I got one of the cheapest (value wise) one in my case... 07-08 UD premier Chris Paul Auto /30... Authenticated only with an auto grade of 8!!!!

$30-$40.....I also got a mandatory Kobe GS auto bgs 9 and a 86-87 Jabbar BGS9.. with two 9.5's...if that helps...(NOT!!!!)...

Leaf took advantage of the previous success on these rookie retro products and made a killing this time around... good job!!!!

After some really brutal sales (about $40 for the 9.5 Jordan and $45 for the Wade/Billups), I've decided to try and recoup my money rather than rip it. Although Houdini's video really tempted me! Anyways, if anyone's interested, it's $400 or Best offer.

Damn that sux, even with one of the "big hits" you're still losing out couple hundred dollars.
