I know this is going back a ways, but I'm finally getting off my ass and finishing my 1996-1997 Topps Mantle Reprints set. My question is, is there a card #20 as a part of that insert set? I've seen examples of it on eBay, but generally only there, and when I look at the checklist through Beckett, I only see #s 1-19 for 1996, and it's not part of the checklist for the 1997 inserts either as those start at #21. Was this one specially inserted elsewhere?
On a related note, if anyone has one they'd like to sell, please PM me with a price. Thanks in advance to anybody who takes the time to respond either way.

Sorry, I don't, at least not as a set. You can go on COMC and look them up individually or check with someone that has the Beckett OPG (if you'd like an unrealistic price
) although I'm sure you could still get a not-terrible total for them as a set.

I don't know for sure, but this is what I think. Cards 1-19 are #'d and are part of the insert set. The 20th card, I believe, is actually card #7 of the 1996 Topps base set. Card #7 has the same special Mantle foil stamping as the 19 insert cards do. That is why I think it is part of the continuity of the 1996 Mantle cards and why #21 picks up with the 1997 insert set.

The 19 card 1996 Mantle Sets have a sale value of around $40-$50. Actually the Finest are slightly less desirable. These are desirable sets, but Topps really ran the presses in 1996 so they are plentiful.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I looked into rkuhn3's answer, but then when I did a bit more searching comparing what I saw on eBay compared to 1996 Topps #7, I finally found this: http://bdj610bbcblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/card-that-makes-you-gowhat-of-week-1996.html. As it turns out, the card I was looking for was actually inserted in Bowman that year all by itself, just another case of Topps being Topps.
Here's the card on COMC, and of course it's 10x cheaper than what I found on eBay: ![]() Thanks again for the help--this board is a great place to look for answers to questions like this!
