Question Price for 1/1 Metal Superfractor for Family Guy Seasons 3-5 from Leaf in 2011

Does anyone recollect how much one of these sold for? As far as I'm aware, I think only 1 or 2 have been sold on eBay ever since this product first came out in 2011 and I can't remember what the price was at all.

Considering only 24 superfractors were made for this set, I know this is probably one of the rarest Family Guy cards out there, but have no definitive price-point for them. I think the only card that comes close to rarity would obviously be the Mark Hamill autograph from this same set. I don't know exactly how many but I know he only signed a handful of them, not sure if it's more or less than 24 cards, but I assume it would be somewhere around there.

What else would be considered the "holy grail" of Family Guy cards?

I feel like there are a lot more than 24 Hamill's out there. Not that it was plentiful compared to other signers, but when the set was out there always seemed to be some available. I'd bet he signed at least a hundred, probably more.

The McFarlane autograph is probably the best card from between the Inkworks and Leaf sets. I say "best" because while the Leaf Carrie Fisher and certainly the Hamill may sell for more, there are many, many signed cards from those two to be had, particularly Fisher. The same is not true for McFarlane.

Too bad there haven't been more Family Guy card sets to choose from regarding this question. There were also some nice sketches in both Inkworks and Leaf, but I don't think any of those would rise to the value of the autographs.

The low-numbered parallel "Quotable" cards, particularly the superfractors are nice, but I don't think particularly valuable. I no longer have records for the one I vaguely remember selling (that'd I'd pulled from a box myself), but I think it went for around $70. This was a good few years after the product release. Boxes were at clearance prices, and had been available at discount for some time, if you can believe it, given all the nice cards that were live in the boxes, which had no redemptions of any kind.

Here's an actual order I made from Blowout Cards around Black Friday, 2016, a full 5 years after the release of the Leaf set. The boxes originally retailed for around $55, so these were over 35% off.

Marvel Avengers Kree-Skrull War - Box $9.11 USD
2008 Score Football Jumbo Box $15.11 USD
2014 Topps Allen * Ginter Baseball Binder - 6ct Case $39.95 USD
2014 Topps Wacky Packages Chrome Box $44.11 USD
2011 Leaf Family Guy Seasons 3 4 5 Trading Cards Box $34.11 USD x2 $68.22
2013 Panini Beach Boys Box $12.95 USD x2 $25.90
Total $202.40 USD
Payment $202.40 USD

I do have records of a base card printing plate I sold not long after the set went live in 2011. It was the Magenta Plate for card 15 and it sold for the princely sum of $17.50.

I wound up getting something like 15-20 boxes of Leaf Family Guy, but the best autograph I got was Patrick Stewart, which is pretty cool, since he's animated on it as Captaion Picard. The sketches were usually pretty nice, but I didn't keep any of them.

Here's a 2005 San Diego Comic-Con Inkworks Booth sketch I have of Slave Lois, by the great Mark Dos Santos.

Tone Rodriguez, the other artist doing the complimentary sketch cards that day, drew a Stewie Darth Vader for me, and this was years before the Family Guy/Star Wars parody crossovers. Unfortunately, I no longer have that card.

It's crazy how cheap the boxes were for some time.. I bought a decent amount through the years and got lucky with Hamill but still missing a ton of signers like Fisher, Stewart and a few others. Even got a quotables superfractor and was tempted to sell it if I could get a good price on it, but based on what you said I would rather keep it in my pc. I was only tempted once I saw how much the new spongebob superfractors were going for.

Crazy how now you can't find a box unless you dish out like $500

The crazy spending on new cards does not apply to comparable cards of the past. /199 base parallels selling for $20-$40, from an older set you're lucky to sniff $5.

Thanks for the info.. looks like it's staying in my pc for sure. It's my only superfractor anyway so I'm happy to keep it. But my spongebob boxes arrive next week so hopefully the result changes that fact for me!

The empties are also great for puttin' stuff in!
Mine are filled with pinback buttons, mostly from Comic-Con over the years.

The Hamill is also terrific from this set, for those who haven't seen it, because he's animated as Luke Skywalker on it.

I found my information for the Quotable Superfractor I had:

"FAMILY GUY Season 3 4 5 Parallel 1/1 GOLD CARD Quotable #'d to 1 REFRACTOR rare"
Sale price: $32.50
Quantity sold: 1
Sale date: May-01-12 20:39:12 PDT

So that was $32.50 in 2012. I also saw that I sold a 2nd printing plate from the set, one with Peter Griffin on it, for around $18, the same as the other plate I sold. So circa 2012, anyway, there wasn't really any premium value of any of these cards, except for the Hamill, Fisher, and Stewart autos and the occasional whistles & bells sketch card (although I parted with some pretty nice ones and I don't remember any of those going for that much either).

That's CRAZY low, but to be fair everything from this set was MUCH cheaper back then. I used to be able to pick up sketches easily for under $20 and now you can barely find one for under $100. I feel like a superfractor could sell for a lot right now.. there hasn't been one on eBay for over 10 years so anyone who's been looking for one has been looking quite a long time

You're asking the correct question:

Are older cards with historically low sell values now appreciating in price due to modern card sell values?

Boy, I hope so, but I'm not so sure.

I have noticed a increase in the regular 2009 Topps Spongebob cards since the release of the new Chrome set. Haven't noticed much of a bump for 2003 Inkworks Scooby-Doo in the wake of the new Upper Deck Scooby set, but there's a lot more of those Scoob Inkworks cards out there than there are of the 2009 Spongebob cards, I think.
