Default Bought a large collection (pic heavy)

Back story. Met a guy who was selling at a local show who had a heavy 80's mix of sports cards. He lived local and after some conversation, I checked out a recent collection he picked up, around 110 plus boxes and a small mix of unopened mostly junk wax from the late 80's early 90's. But also had some late 70's early 80's. He told me he thought it was "picked" but his price for the lot was too good to turn down, so I took the risk. Plus, he threw in some sets.

It took two trips to pick everything up and my back was feeling it but after everything was back in my garage, I dove into the 78 and 79 boxes to upgrade my existing sets. I also put away the 80's sets I picked up.

The boxes also had football and basketball, nothing mind-blowing and no high end Jordans but I wasn't complaining.

The unopened I picked up. He also had plenty of 89 fleer and donruss. Sadly, no upper deck. He had a 1986 and 1987 football box but his asking price was a bit high.

I had three days off last week and was able to really dive into the boxes. the collection was definitely "picked" but I was surprised at what was left behind. I pulled all the big hall of famers, including Harold baines! Paging those back pages!

There were 16 tim raines rookies in the 81 donruss box. Multiple cards of all the big time hofers were there across all three brands. Sadly, no Henderson rookies in 1980 Topps, and no 84 donruss Mattingly's. but hundreds of hall of famer's. I got a little lazy posting pics but I have piles of the major stars across all three brands. The collection was especially heavy on 1981-1985. Sadly, 1984 donruss was sparse.

A few oddities. Some star baseball cards. I need to look up the bo Jackson cards to see if they are worth anything. A smattering of desert storm cards, the best ones here. Also, a HOF ticket and Yankees vs Red Sox playoff tickets from 2003 (Aaron "freaking" Boone home run game)

The only auto's. A Rodney peete proline auto and a Brent Barry fleer bskb auto. Lots of griffeys but no UD rookies. No Jeter Topps gold rookies, but I wasn't complaining. He also threw in two more Topps sets in binders from 83 and 84.

Probably the best stuff right here. I found the Jeter SP rookie in the next to last box. Not pictured: Multiple other stars and rookies from the early 90s like Frank Thomas/chipper Jones/more Jeters/Griffey second years, etc. I had a blast going through this collection and will likely grade a few of the big cards.

I already sold the leftovers from the collection to a local dealer who gave me credit in his card shop, so it's already gone and out of the house. I will keep the cards pictured and will likely sell them off, but for now, I'm taking a break and working on summer projects.

Not selling anything right now, so please no PM's thank you.

Thank you for looking! I already have a lead on another big collection!

Is that a ProSet Belichick? What's the significance of that one? I ask because I'm pretty sure I've never pulled those out of my commons.

I don't think it's worth much. It snuck in there.

For what it's worth, it's considered his RC by those who care about such things for coaches. Similar to the Marv Levy in 1989 Pro Set.

I purchased a big lot similar to this about 10 years ago. It was incredibly fun to dig through and I kept a ton of cards for my PC.

Nice buy! I bet the Jeter SP was fun to uncover.

Those Sox/Yankees tickets are from Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, aka the Aaron Boone game.

Nope. I think they were picked from the prior owner.

It's always fun going through stuff like that. But same case here, no 1980 Rickey in the collections I've bought. As for Bo Jackson, anything from that era in PSA 10 is moving quickly. Also Griffey 89 Donruss Rookies in PSA 10 are moving North
