Default Need advice re: 2018 Topps Ginter X red mini Ohtani RC hand numbered out of 5

A friend pulled a red mini Ohtani RC hand numbered out of 5 from a Topps.com online exclusive Ginter X box back in 2018 and never got it graded and has just been keeping it in a penny sleeve within a hard plastic sleeve ever since.

He is now for the first time considering selling it. Would love everyone’s take on potential value and advice on best way for him to move it. This is a 5 figure card in my opinion, but is the # in front a 1 or 2 or (if this card was a PSA 10) even higher?

The card looks mint to me so let’s assume it’s at least a 9, and regardless only 5 exist and the red being an Angels color match is an added bonus.

Look forward to the responses. Thanks.

PS - he also has 1 unopened box of 2018 Ginter X that he may consider also moving but is more inclined to hold a bit longer until Ronald Acuna Jr. is back at the top of his game.

I didn't understand the following question.

+++
but is the # in front a 1 or 2 or (if this card was a PSA 10) even higher?
+++

Do you mean if the card would be valued higher if it was serial numbered 1/5 or 2/5?
Some people like the "first number (1/5)" or "last number (5/5)", but I don't think it really matters in this case. Jersey numbers are highly sought after as well, but obviously this card doesn't go up to /17.
If it's a PSA 10, obviously it would sell better than raw or PSA 9, 8s.

I have the same card by the way, with mine being 1/5.
These colored minis are tough to grade. I was ready to receive an 8 grade, and I did.
I have no clue on the value nowadays, and I don't intend to sell mine at all, but maybe anywhere between $2-4k in PSA 8?
Not sure if I'm underestimating the value or overestimating with bias of owning a copy myself.

After re-reading your question about 5 times, now I understand...
You are saying would it either be $10,000 or $20,000 card, basis getting PSA 10 grade.

I do not think there is a chance that this card touches $20,000 even if in such a pristine condition.
I would say $10,000 is even a stretch, but who knows.
It is a tough card to grade as I mentioned already, so that aspect might push the value even higher, if it can get a 10.

But yes, grade it, regardless it gets an 8 or 9 or 10.
If 7... maybe better to leave raw, but I would grade anyways in such case as well.

That was a reference to my thought it would be a 5 figure card based on the prices of other PSA 9 Ohtani RC’s out of 5 So does the price start with a 1 or a 2 - ie 10K+ or 20K+.

My guess is your PSA 8 is now in the 5k to 10k range based on comps of other Ohtani RC’s out of 5.

And how would you suggest he sells the card to maximize the sale value here. Curious to hear everyone’s strategy. Thanks.

I would just put it up on eBay with high "Buy it now / Best Offer" price and see what you can get.
People complain about their fees all the time, but eBay is still the king when it comes to getting exposure.

Some might suggest auction houses like Goldin, but I think they are flooded with rare Ohtani cards now (many of them being autos), so even a beautiful rare card like this Ginter X Red Mini would be buried underneath them.
From my experience, auction houses are only good if you are giving them the top 5% tier cards during the auction period, and if those auction houses can pump your cards for you on social media etc.

19,999 BIN with BO and take whatever sharpens your pencil. Be prepared for tire kickers , scamsters and other such nonsense though.

Nice card. The Alpha and the Omega have a slight premium attached to them. The jersey number has a slight premium attached to them. Something unique like the Topps Independence Day numbers 17/76 have a slight premium attached to them. The other random numbers, no, they dont.

Fantastic card. I would want to own one too. Not a five figure card though. Allen & Ginter is niche #1, X is niche #2. It's a niche-niche card for a very, very good player. I bought a cloth /10 A&G rookie for under 1K less than a year ago.

What were your comps on PSA 9, /5? I have to agree, A&G is pretty niche and wouldn’t command as much as the more established flagship brands.

a mini-framed auto sold in January for $4,500 OBO BGS 9/10.

For a such a niche card/market, likely a 1-2K card, would honestly just sell raw on auction.

It's worth more than that. Source? If this was offered to me for $3k I'd buy it. Literally.

For niche cards/markets, it's never a good idea to sell via auction.

Go on eBay, search 2018 AG Shohei Ohtani, go under sold listings and select to start by highest ending first.

First card that pops is that.

I would agree. I don’t think this card will hit five figures imo but it’s a very nice niche card. I would post it on eBay with a BIN with BO that is comfortable to the seller

Thought today would be an appropriate day for an update here. The card sold ungraded via a private FB transaction in July for $3750. I haven’t seen it pop up on any PSA pop report so I assume it’s still ungraded.

Any thoughts on what it’s worth today after last nights mind blowing historic performance? Crazy.

After last night? Probably between $10,000-$20,000 range

I saw some Ohtani cards go for RIDICULOUS money last night

$6-8K ungraded. PSA 10 would be five figures.

You should have posted it in the Shohei thread. Someone (mainly me) would have beat a 3,750 offer. Consider it as an option next time.

Price on those has been cratering for some time. Broke my set a few years ago to sell 83 for $750 raw. Glad I did. Looks like it’s getting closer to time to replace it.

Goldin. I know it is an unpopular suggestion.
