Default My opinion for the NY METS! LMK what you think

So Mets owner Fred Wilpon knocked 3 of our stars today, them being Reyes, Wright and Beltran. Ok so Ive been doing alot of thinking and I love the Mets we have so many hi paid player that we should only have if we are big contendors to win the World Series. I know that is not currently in our sights so I think that we have to unload Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Santana and K-Rod. What I think we should do is to get rid of these guys and start prospecting heavy. Start focusing our team around our young guys like Jenrry Mejia, Wilmer Flores, Lucas Duda, Fernando Martinez, Josh Thole and Ike Davis because I think that if we get rid of our "Star players" pick up what prospects we can then in a few years we will be strong contenders. Just saying guys let me know what you think!

Brad Emaus isn't even with the Mets anymore and their farm system just isn't strong enough for the type of overhaul you suggest. Furthermore, "unloading" all of the stars the team has will only succeed in making sure that the Mets are in the cellar of the NL East for the next few years, which simply isn't an option for a big market team like the Mets. In my opinion, the Mets should focus on the young players in their system and be agressive in the draft for once, to get rid of all of the foundations the team currently has would completely destroy them. Reyes and KRod are two of the only bright spots so far for the Mets and are keeping them around the .500 mark so far. Hopefully with a new front office they can turn things around a bit, but I don't think a COMPLETE rebuild is necessary.

I didn't know Emaus was gone, thanks for the update. I would love to keep Jose Reyes but im starting to come to conclusion with whats most likely going to happen with him. I thought that he would be a Met for life as well as D.Wright but I guess thats just me being a Mets fan.

Oh I certainly think that Jose will be gone - I can't see ownership paying the kind of money he will want, but I think it would be great for them for him to stay. I do think Wright will stay though, it would be dumb to trade him now when his stock is so low. If they need to get rid of Reyes though this is the time seeing as he is playing the best baseball of his career.

Its a shame also because of the energy that Reyes brings to the team and the leadership that Wright plays. I went to Port Saint Lucie 4 years ago for spring training, I saw Johan, Pedro and Maine pitch for the 3 games I went to. During spring training I had a chance to meet Jose Reyes and Ryan Church. Jose is such a nice guy and watching him is so enjoyable. He has such a great vibe to him. After one of the games a few friends and I followed him from Traditional field to the minor league field. I patiently waited for him to get done talking to all the minor league players, I called his name he waved me over and had a brief conversation with him. He signed 2 official balls and my Reyes jersey that I was wearing. Really good guy and one of the best times of my life! Lucky for us, they don't let fans into the Minor League stadium area, it was batting practice. The friend I went down there with his grandfather is the security at the front gate and he just happened to be working at that certain time! On a good note I have alot of faith in Fernando Martinez, he looked very promising at the time. Also wanted to add that Ryan Church is a really nice guy, he was out there signing, meeting and greeting with fans for a solid hour.

It is a shame. I've noticed Church was really great with the fans too and I have also had a good experience with Reyes when he signed a ball for me before a game. He just adds something to every game he plays in, such an exciting player to watch. I'd love to see them keep him but I just can't see it anymore. Fmart is tough though, I think he has the talent if he ever stays healthy but I dont like the chances. I mean he has arthritis in his knees already and hes only 22.

Reyes will be gone, and the Mets should let him walk. The fact that he wants 18M a year is insane.

Trade Reyes, Bel-TRON, Santana and K-Rod. Tear down Citi Field and rebuild Shea, or just use a time machine...whatever works...or paint the f'n outfield wall blue for crying out loud. I'd be happy with any of those scenarios.

I agree with you on every level besides getting rid of Reyes. I just love his character and charisma. I know they are going to get rid of him but I wish they would keep him. As for Santana he hasn't done crap for us since becoming a Met, K-Rod why do we need to spend that kind of money on a closer when we aren't a contender. Don't get me wrong K-Rod is a great player but at this point we just don't need to spend that type of money on him right now. Beltran is still decent he's just getting old, same scenario we don't need him at this time get our farm system going and lets look towards the future of the Mets. I mean lets think logically. Do you really think we have what it takes to win the World Series this year let alone the NL East? Don't get me wrong I love my Mets and stand by them 100% but I would rather look at our future, we can have a good young team in a few years that can be a contender in our division.

They have to trade Reyes considering they won't be able to sign him, he should atleast bring in a couple decent prospects. If Beltran keeps hitting he'll be a decent dedline bat that they might be able to get something out of.
