I haven’t opened anything in a long time due to crazy prices. But I’m looking to spend up to $300 (may consider more for the right thing) on packs or boxes. Anything from 90s to current. I prefer basketball but would do baseball or football as well. I’m mainly looking for the enjoyment of opening something so I wondered about early 90s looking for Jordan, Shaq etc.
So what would you look to open?

Each set has its own themes and aesthetics going for it so I would advise looking through the releases calendar and seeing what appeals to you
For that price point Court Kings would be a good fit and it's one of my favorites |

I don't have an answer because I don't know enough about the breakdown of each product and their cost, etc. But I do think it depends on the experience you're looking for. Do you want to open a product like Hoops with tons of base and low end inserts that'll take you 20 or 30 minutes to open and maybe get you close towards a base set? Do you want to open a box like Court Kings mentioned above, which is 10 cards or so? But you'll potentially have a better chance at a bigger hit?
Just something to consider. I've recently been thinking that 90s or early 00s boxes were likely less watered down than current products so make more sense to open, but I have no idea if any of them are actually affordable.

I haven't picked up a sealed box in 3 or 4 years either because of the super questionable prices and exorbitant international shipping rates but for $300ish I'd go for something from 95/96. Pretty sure you can get something very decent for that price.
Plenty of sweet Jordan, Shaq inserts. KG & Sheed rookies. Yeah, go for 1995-96 sealed boxes. Its a nice sweet spot for 90's cards, not junk wax and not death merchants from 96/97 onwards. |

I like 1992-93 options...Fleer series 1 has a really nice MJ all star to chase. It is next to impossible to Gem but a 9 will cover your box and then some, 1992-93 upper deck high series, 1992-93 stadium club series 2 or maybe 1993-94 Ultra series 2 with the power in the Key inserts. Shaq RC's, beam teams, a few lower end MJ inserts and any base MJ in PSA 10 can recoup your box costs. Most of these boxes are $125-$300. There are other options in 92-93/93-94 that will yield nice MJ base and insert chances and won't crush you too bad.

I would try for 95/96 Fleer ultra srs 1
Plenty of Jordans and Shaqs Nice insert sets that are underrated. Gold parallels in inserts and base
