Default Mike Mahan YouTube Live TONIGHT

We’re really excited Mike is joining our Thursday night YouTube Live - Blabbin’ ‘Bout Slabbin’ tonight at 8pm ET for a quick collecting Q&A and talk about Series 1.

Not sure how many questions from the chat we can get to, but we’ll definitely be asking about the Flagship Black Parallel (RIP) and some of these SSP images we’re seeing.

Here’s the link:

Thanks for watching!

Some great news on the return of the Flagship black parallels!

The Mahan interview starts at about the 2:50 mark for anyone interested:

Great interview. Kudos to Mike for going on and for bringing back the blacks. That said, it was somewhat telling he didn't know Heritage Golds were numbered to /5.

Yikes. Wouldn't it be cool if Fanatics Collect was ran by a true hobbyist?

People criticize PSA for a lot of things -- many of them deserving -- but at least Nat Turner is a knowledgeable collector of PSA-graded cards.

You’re going to be hard pressed to find a hobbyist capable of running Topps. They tried with Luber, and you saw how that went.

Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but did they ask about the terrible collation issues? IMO, that's a much bigger issue than some color parallel being removed.

Or the chipping issue being seen on a lot of the foils?

Didn't get into collation, but quality control certainly came up.

It's about 40 minutes of the most recent Blabbin about Slabbin episode, I would recommend everyone watch. He's pretty open.

And while he goofed on the Heritage golds being out of 5, he does fully get that heritage is a beloved product and said it's not going anywhere.

They are trying to just add to that one, blue and red refractors will be introduced at some point.

Again, worth the watch. I'm hoping the show can have him on about once a quarter or 2x a year to address issues concerns and reveal news.

Hat tip to Jeff and Chris for getting through a ton in a short amount of time.

Jeff and Chris are passionate collectors and care about the hobby, and I'm glad they have a way to reach out to Fanatics with feedback. Mike seems like a genuine guy which was nice instead of the whole corporate deflecting tactics. Great watch.

Agreed on Jeff and Chris, they definitely had a big part in getting the blacks back. They asked a lot of questions that could be construed as criticism in a very non-confrontational manner.

Yeah, it’s news to me that Luber was a hobbyist. He seems like a guy who collects things, anything, that he can create a pump ‘n dump out of.

Was the release schedule and/or lack of pre-release product information discussed?

Hmm -- they had red refractors in 2021 and 2022, and a blue in 2017.

I think these are going to be more "hit" edition refractors.

The reds a few years ago were what, 370ish, 570ish, etc?

I think blue just replaced black in 2017 (both out of 50 and the refractor)

I think they are extending the chrome enumeration to heritage, again, trying to standardize things.

This is what I took out of it. But I'm sure more details will come soon.

Heritage collectors don't want 65 zillion different parallel refractors, especially if they are used as an excuse to jack up box prices.

Just improve the odds of hitting regular chrome & refractors and black refractors instead!

That's what I'm scared of given Mike not knowing that Heritage /5 are gold.

That can only be done by lowering print run and that isn't going to happen.

They want Heritage to be more popular and compatible with group breaking. That means more lower-numbered refractor chase hits -- boom!

Mahan's job is to boost the short and mid-term performance of Topps. Group breaking and gambling is the engine that will drive that growth.

No surprise that Fanatics is overlooking the consequences of every product mirroring one another. Flagship is Topps Chrome is Bowman is Bowman Chrome is Cosmic is Heritage is Pristine is Black is Finest and so on. Product differentiation is at an all-time low. The longer it continues, the more you see people leave all of these products to instead chase what’s unique.
