Arrow Football Cards that 'Popped' Because Players Only RC

Hardest one yet (Because you had to be there to remember)

Has to be only RC available, and why did it "POP" (go up). Tell your story if you made some profit.

Richard Sherman
2012 Panini Contenders
[Base] #86 - Season Ticket

Do you remember when this happened?

In 2013 these were considered throw away base cards - $.75 each. By the time Super Bowl XLVIII came around, they were going for $25+ on eBay as Sherman and the rest of the LOB became stars on their way to winning the SB against Denver. I never owned one, but was amazed as it skyrocketed higher.

Now you, GO!

Yep

His only rookie card as far as I know

And Sherman at least had the Contenders bump. No one bought Panini Unparalleled

Reminds me that there aren't any rookie cards of Buffalo Bills CB Christian Benford (aka Trent McDuffie without the hype)

Rodney McLeod - Entered the league in 2012, first card was as an Eagle in that same 2017 Unparalleled set.

Kind of like that they did that with the Unparalleled set, but alas its last year of release was 2019.

Josh Cribbs… who should go to the HOF… but I digress

He has a Contenders auto and a Leaf R&S

Not sure if that counts since he has 2

Another LOB Rookie from the 2013 SEAHAWKS.

2012 Topps - [Base] #157 - Kam Chancellor

As Richard Sherman's only RC started to Pop, this one soon followed. These never went as high as Sherman's, but they were dirt cheap commons if you could find them in bargain bins. Well over $10 from .10 cents a pop. Find a rare parallel or gold and you got some nice coin.

Who remembers this?

They used that Kelce photo on 2017 Elite as well, on the Family Ties insert with Travis.

Not sure if this guy counts since he was a 1 hit wonder. Chris Matthews 2011 Gridiron Gear RC. He was an undrafted WR signed by the browns waived and then signed with Seattle. He had a pretty good game in Superbowl 49 which made his price skyrocket. I had a variation of that RC #d to I forget but I remember selling it for $60 or $80 right after.

Pat McAfee's 2014 Topps All-Pro card is his first NFL card and one that definitely shot up in value quite a bit when he started getting popular. Today, with a limited number of cards in production, that card is really pricey.

2008 Topps #241 James Harrison
He was on the practice squad for a couple years before he made the team I believe. Took a couple more years to get a card printed, and it went off after the pick 6 in the Bowl vs Cardinals.

Oh I was mixed up. The inclusion of the Kelce early on made me think POP meant they produced a card for a guy they never made an NFL card before, despite him playing in the league for many years.

That's what unparalleled prided itself on. Most players would have collegiate cards, but back in the day they didn't make NFL cards for all 224 draft picks (and this # goes higher depending on how many compensatory picks are handed out in a given year) - so Jason Kelce was drafted in 2011 but didn't have his first pro card until 2017, thus the 2017 Panini Unparalleled card having the rookie logo on it - same with McLeod, drafted in 2012, didn't have a pro card until 2017 Panini Unparalleled.

Don't mind me!!
