Seems like we all have at least one?
That one player we knew was going to be “The One!”
For whatever reason didn’t make it .
I thought might be an interesting thread for everybody
To talk about ?
No card values or wax prices …
Just baseball

Mine was /is nick pratto.
Yea I’m a bay holder lol
But I know he’s gonna be up this year and crush it….

Marco Luciano is still in process of breaking my heart. A long painful separation.

The list is long, but I guess I can go back to Mike Greenwell.

He had a short career, but I thought he was going to be a superstar.

Hank Blalock
Sean Burroughs
Justin Smoak
Dominick Brown
Desmond Jennings
Brennen Davis
Jordan Walker

I could go on and on here . . .

I will be honest about Aaron Judge. I never thought he would be a star when he was in the minors High strikeout rate and at his height I never thought he would be a good defender in the OF. I was obviously wrong there. He broke my heart in that I never bought much of his stuff at release.

Jose Barrero and Austin Hendrick. It's so sad that someone with crazy tools like Barrero had such a promising career destroyed by the low and away slider. He simply could not adjust.

Austin Meadows. I guess people saw the writing on the wall as his prices didn’t even get that crazy after his awesome All-Star season in 2019.

There's a name I have not heard in a while. He had a decent albeit not illustrious career.

Matt LaPorta was one of the few prospects I followed and he washed up like a turd on the beach.

I will have to go with Wander Franco, had the entire league in the palm of his hand and just completely wasted this incredible future and his god given talent. Disgusting.

Ben Grieve. I had a really solid collection of him. Still have a couple autographed hats, but the cards are long gone.

Besides names already mentioned...Mark Prior (2nd overall pick), Brandon Wood (23rd overall), Delmon Young (1st overall), Joba Chamberlain (41st overall supplemental)...all first round picks.

Last edited by oddstuff; 01-06-2025 at 03:33 PM. Reason: Joba escaped my mind briefly

Still have small lots (25 each maybe?) of Greenwell's Topps/Donruss in 800 count '87 cards storage boxes in the closet that will probably get cleared out soon.
