Default Gretzky OPC Rookie - Rough edges, or no?

Some of 99's rookie card have very rough edges, while others are much neater. Is there a benefit (i.e. more "vintage", etc) to a card with the rough edges?

The rough cut is more desired for sure, mostly because it’s proof the card wasn’t trimmed I’ve heard. That said, apparently trimmers can re-create the rough cut as well.

100% rough edges.
Amazing PSA submission $$$ (not mine!)

My understanding is that there is most likely a rough edge or more just due to the odds of one of the wires being old/nearing replacement,. However, depending on how fresh the wire was doing the particular cut on a particular side of the card, it could still be fairly smooth or look like the 44223936 example above with one rough edge and the other 3 edges being cleaner. I think under high magnification there's likely a pattern seen, made by the wire, that can be confirmed even on the cleaner/less jagged looking sides (like ballistics on a fired bullet).

I also think where the card was on the uncut sheet mattered. Cards along the edge of the sheet may fair better/worse?

Re-read my explanation (about the wires used to cut them/being replaced periodically), you missed the entire point I made. If what I said was wrong, explain why [not point out the same things already noted].

The Gretzky card in question is from 1979-80, by 1990 everyone had upped their game and was trying to reach UD quality levels. By the mid/late 1980s those OPC specific fuzzy edges disappeared.

This is a cool video.

Echoing what others have said….prefer the rough edges.

I’d always be very wary about any 79 OPC Gretzky that doesn’t have the rough edges. The x3936 PSA 9 would make me nervous.

That video is so interesting! Such a cool perspective seeing a card like that up close with that level of magnification.
