Default Have you ever lost cards in the mail?

So I ordered a Jeter card a month ago and the tracking was going fine until it just stopped updating while it was in the middle of transit. A few weeks later it just shows up and the tracking updated to delivered. Have you ever lost a package or cards in the mail? I for sure thought the card was gone. Thankfully it wasn’t anything crazy expensive but I’m glad to have the card regardless

Have had it happen a few times. I give it a few day to a week after the expected delivery date before I let the seller know. Most of the time it shows up in that time frame. Once or twice they were completely lost. Nothing big though.

Remember it is Christmas so shipping is going to be very delayed.

I'm going to jinx myself but I have never had something lost. Just a few things delayed but they eventually show up.

As a seller, had a first class package that got lost a couple of years ago. Had to open a missing mail form with the post office and they were unable to track it down. It was a $50 order and was not insured so had to eat the cost and refund the buyer. Fortunately the buyer was understanding throughout the whole process of trying to track it down.

As a buyer, it did happen a few times and was able to get a refunds, but always gave it ample time to hope for some movement.

I just received a card I bought from eBay with standard envelope shipping 1 year and 10 months after I bought it. Seller shipped it right away so it was lost on USPS for almost two years. I forgot I even bought it until it showed up

This happened to me...dropped it off one night after hours, NEVER showed up with any acceptance scan. GREAT.

Opened missing mail case. NOTHING.

Refunded buyer.

~30 days after I mailed it...it pops up in the system, and it's headed west to the buyer.

Missing mail case still clueless to it's existence.

I paid $17.50 for package intercept. It got all the way to the destination post office before it got turned around. I had chatted with someone at my local post office who said that's usually what happens so I shouldn't worry that it's still headed that way and not yet 'intercepted' while it was still moving towards the destination.

The package was fine. No damage. I thought for sure it was going to be smashed and rashed from conveyor belt damage.

Missing mail case eventually closed, had no knowledge of this activity from what I recall. Pretty useless. I think if I hadn't checked the tracking periodically, then it would have been delivered to the buyer and I may not have known.

I must have horrible luck. I've had probably 6-10 each year the last 3 years. Fortunately it's never been any of the more expensive cards. I do have a couple delayed right now I'm nervous on. I did have one show up a month late last week right before Thanksgiving. Most recently I had a card I bought in mid October that never showed.

Guessing I have sent out more than 10k packages over the last 7-8 years and while I have had several ESE go missing and not show up, I have never had one that was shipped ground advantage(or first class) or priority not show up until recently.
Just a $70 card shipped ground advantage in a bubble mailer. Has acceptance scan at my local PO but nothing after. Missing mail search, which is usually helpful and gets the item moving, was of no help this time. I have refunded the buyer but I wouldn't be shocked if at some point I see the tracking move over a few months.
Oh, and trying to file a claim online, it says it's not eligible but not sure why. Says something about extra services were not purchased but that shouldn't matter as ground advantage is covered up to $100. Still have to work on that.

As buyer, this year had one go off radar back in June, but eventually showed up in September, bubble mailer beat to all heck and dirty, but card inside was fine.

As a seller, in well over a decade shipping things, I don’t think I had one package ever go truly lost by USPS (I also don’t do ESE stuff so maybe that's why). The closest I came probably was a high end package w/ sig required that was out for delivery but didn’t get a delivery scan (but due to honest buyer I knew it was delivered…..great carrier, d’oh). And a few other cases of a registered mail package being shipped coast to coast which I truly thought were lost being a good amount over 2 weeks shipping time with no updates on tracking for long stretches…but all got there eventually and Registered is just so dang slow. I do think it’s very rare for a genuinely tracked (non ESE or PWE) USPS package to go truly lost, outside misdelivery to the wrong address. Even if it goes off radar for months it often somehow turns up.

Same. I know it happens, just not as common as it sounds.

I bought the 2002 bowman chrome draft Jeff Francoeur gold refractor 7/50 jersey number from a guy in Canada about 17 years ago and DHL lost it somewhere along the border. It never surfaced.

I also lost a t206 that I purchased through eBay about the same time. It just vanished.

Both times I got my money back but the sellers lost out.

Had a few ESEs fall off the planet as a seller, though I suspect most of those people got their cards and are just gaming the system. I did have a COMC order disappear for a year. I got paid by USPS then months later COMC send me a message that my package was returned to sender. Ended up with the cards 18 months after shipment. Glad I got them since there were some raw gem Jordan cards.

Out of the countless cards I've had shipped to me, only one and maybe soon to be two have been lost.

Summer 2022 I had a card get "missent" to a post office like 50 miles from me. And it just died there. The tracking went cold. I called and the older gentleman who answered was no help.

And then just this past Saturday a card got marked as "Delivered" but is nowhere to be found. Luckily, this was a $2 card so I'm not too stressed about it.

I also once bought a non card collectable that disappeared for about 10 months before magically showing up one day.

It sucks. But it does happen sometimes.

Yup. I bought a card on eBay and it got stuck in Arizona. I ended up calling the USPS hub it was stuck at and they could not find the package. I gave it a few weeks to see it pops up, but it never did. Luckily, the seller easily refunded my money.

You can call USPS hubs to inquire about packages? Like distribution centers? Never knew you could do that, thought that was all pretty closed off.

I know you can call *some* post offices, but some just take you to the 1-800 National number, which is all but useless for locating missing packages.

It can be a challenge to find their direct phone number, but it’s possible. There were many times no one answered the phone.. the one day, someone finally answered and looked into my package.

Bought a gift card years ago on eBay. Never showed and tracking stalled. Seller was cool and refunded me the money. Six months later it arrived. The tracking was updated but all over the place. It was as if they found it behind a machine or storage bin or something.
