Downsize.

And figure out how to display my PC.

My primary focus will be downsizing and using that cash to fund new purchases. I've got about 20-25 different insert/auto sets that I've been working on....some of them for 20+ years.

In terms of new releases, the only products I'm planning on collecting next year will be 2025 Topps Heritage (1976 design) and 2024 Platinum Anniversary (1955 design). Will build the base sets, and collect HOFer/future HOFer Black Chromes/Variations and autos.

I might add a few insert sets to that list if I see anything I like, but that will be about it.

Got my target list of cards I want to own and continuing down that path for now.

I consolidated a lot last year and if you are considering it I highly recommend it.

Don't bust any wax. Only buy singles. Quality over quantity. Downsize.

Goal for 2025? De-fund Topps and Fanatics from my budget. I have done fairly well the past 3 months but need to go all the way in 2025.

I have this problem. I actually downsized 2 years ago and was only going to focus on 2 sets but now I have 6 again!

1939 Ted Williams.
1958 Hank Aaron (centered PSA 1-2)
1959 Hank Aaron (centered PSA 1-2)
More signed Koufax from his playing days

And sell. Always be selling.

Consolidate. Sell sets, lower value items, etc and put towards vintage.

List at least 5 new items every week.

Continue the Topps/Fanatics boycott.

I will be downsizing my graded collection, putting more cards in top loaders, buying more vintage oddball issues, and using Zion Magpro cases to expand my on card auto collection. Maybe throw in a few bigger cards and complete my Hank Aaron run.

Off the top of my head, a few runs I need to finish up.

Topps Chrome Gold Mookie Betts (need '14 Debut, '17 and '24, where are the 24s? geez)
2017 Ortiz SSPs (only missing 2, Dodger Stadium and the one with Pujols)
Always on the hunt for Ortiz Red Refractors.

Hoping for a Ted Williams Auto

Newer to the hobby so I don't need to downsize too much but there are bout 30-40 slabs I bought early in my reintroduction to collecting I could part with.

Happy for this thread idea as I made a list in 2024, kept me pretty focused and I think I did pretty well against the set goals I made.

My goals from last year's thread.

1) Finish the 2011 Topps Heritage tint set
2) Finish my 2003 - 2012 Topps Heritage refractor run
3) Add a nice Albert Pujols RC (coming soon )
4) Build a respectable trade pile for the National
5) Cross some slabs to PSA at the National
6) Consolidate!
7) Add some nice Barry Bonds inserts and an auto from his playing days
I hit on everything except #2. Only 3 cards away though Very happy with my progress.

I have a handful of cards left to sell and trade, but I have removed unwanted things from my collection.

As for 2025 goals...

1) Add a 2001 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols refractor auto. Can't have a faded auto or be too off-centered.
2) Complete my 2001 Topps Heritage chrome set (need 36 cards)
3) Complete my 2002 Topps Heritage chrome set (need 21 cards)
4) Add a 2001 Topps Chrome Retrofractor Ichiro
5) Attend the National and make some trades
6) Trade and consolidate some of my 90s stuff
7) Finish my 2003 - 2012 Topps Heritage refractor run (need 3 cards!)
Bonus goal: Add a 2001 SP Authentic Chirography Ichiro

I'm down to opening just Heritage, Stadium Club and Cosmic Chrome and plan the same for next year. Beyond that, I try to pick ten or so cards that I'd like to add to my PC for the year.

I mainly collect Marvel and in Baseball I master set collect one particular set, 1997 Finest.

I am undecided if I want to continue with the 97 Finest set and where I want to go with it. It is prohibitively hard to make progress in it at any decent rate. I have been eyeing the major markets for the better part of the year, and there’s like 7 gold refractors I have yet to see, as well as even a couple silver refs. Never mind the embossed ref stuff.

Considering selling some cards and putting it into blue chip comics, since they are quite low now. Not sure, but consolidating focus is a big goal.

2025 Goals
1. Stop opening boxes / epacks

6. Buy HOF autographed cards

Monumental tasks...Let's see how far I get in 2025.

That's a impressive number. I have 171 different autos of HOFers.

Same ones I had last year.

1. Get rid of all stuff that doesn't fit my collection. Really focus on base and modern rookies i don't want. That is to clear a ton of storage space. Failed this past year. Pile is still too big.
2. Buy less wax. Pretty successful last year. I didn't buy much.
3. Move modern graded into HOF rcs and vintage.
4. Start back up with my 4 year rule. Don't buy rcs until the their forth year in the league. (Created for football. If teams don't pick up a 5th year option, than the player probably sucks).

How has the 4th year rule been working?

I have some high-end cards that I'd like to consolidate into higher-end.

Get rid of all the junk that I amassed during covid.

Maybe have a table by a local show with bigger stuff and a dollar box.

If there’s a pitcher I like, I will just get one or two nice cards of theirs, but that’s it. I can’t have stacks of Sixto Sanchez, Trevor Rogers, Edward Cabrera, Max Meyer, Jesus Luzardo, Zac Gallen, Shane Bieber, etc., anymore. I just can’t do it anymore.

Jonny Gomes
  1. Add one non-1/1 card from the needs list (other than the 2022 Japanese set I just discovered)
  2. Finish the non-1/1s from said 2022 Japanese set (a /5 base parallel and a /5 auto)
  3. Add two 1/1s
  4. Add two game-used jerseys
  5. Add two game-used bats
  6. Add 365 serial-numbered cards

On the first goal, the non-1/1 needs are listed here (post #1); there are only nine, and picking one up happens maybe every three years. Suffice it to say, it'll be tough.

The 2022 Japanese set (post #10 at above link) may be more attainable. I discovered the set nearly two years after it was issued and was still able to pick up many of them (including multiple copies of a /9 auto), so it seems to have been fairly widely broken/distributed. Fingers crossed on that one.

On the third goal, I've averaged maybe one 1/1 a year, although recently picked up three. Two is therefore within the realm of possibility but far from guaranteed.

Same with the jerseys and bats. I bought three jerseys and one bat this year; there are a few available even now (although substantially overpriced), so these ones are possible.

The serial-numbered one is more for fun; given the dearth of new Gomes pickups, I've focused on buying duplicate serial-numbered cards and storing them in binders. Some back-of-the-envelope math suggests that he has 80,031 such cards. I purchased well more than 365 in 2024, but (as a result) there are fewer cards out there to acquire, especially at reasonable prices. This should also provide a fun way to track pickups throughout the year.
