Default *** OFFICIAL 2024 WORLD SERIES THREAD - New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers ***

It’s been 43 years since MLB had this storied matchup. Personally, I don’t care who wins but here’s hoping for a good series and that these two teams get this winning business out of their systems.

Who ya got? I’m predicting the Yankees in 5.

Go LA I guess

This is a huge match up for baseball ratings and a dream for the upper brass. I do see the yankees pulling this out though and winning in 6

This is an absolutely incredible spotlight for our game. I freaking love it, and I hate both of these teams. Rooting for LA so Ohtani can get a ring. East coast vs west coast, mvp vs mvp. This is going to be so good. I hope it goes 7. I know there will be the grumpy small market fans that says this is horrible, but I don't know that it gets better than this for 2024. As a Braves fan, I can appreciate this. GO DODGERS! (vomit)

Congrats to Yankees fans and Dodgers fans. Great for baseball to see two storied franchises in the WS.
As an Astros fan I have nonissue admitting it’s good for baseball to see the two league MVPs head to head for their first ring.
What will get lost in all of it (or not get as much hobby attention), is the fact that Soto is going back to the place his legend started. What Soto did in 2019 helping the Nats win vs Houston was incredible. What he did helping push NY past Cleveland was also impressive. While we all know Judge is this years MVP for the regular season, it took Soto and Stanton having huge playoff moments to get the Yankees there (as well as the NY pitchers who delivered after so many awful playoff moments the past several years).
Judge will get a huge hobby bump if NY wins, even if he doesn’t deliver in his WS ABs. If Soto shines like he has before, he should rise to NEAR the top of the hobby.
After Harper left DC for greener pastures the Nats were awful at the break in 2019, and Soto helped carry them to the WS along with some great additions and stellar managing by Martinez. Some boneheaded managing by Hinch helped, but destiny seemed to favor DC that year. We all saw Judge virtually disappear in 2017-2024 in his key playoff ABs, whereas Soto embraces the moments and delivers. Judge does have 15 HRs in the playoffs, but none them really changed the game or hurt the other teams momentum. Soto seems to thrive in moments that affect the outcome of crucial games. Ohtani was equally as clutch for LA this postseason run.
For the hobby, it’s going to be great overall because, yes, both MVPs head to head, one will win a ring, and hopefully both will put on historic displays that will be retold for decades. If both fizzle and it comes down to some David Freese-esque heroics to win, they still win rings and get hobby bumps, but there will always be discussions of “yeah but…” attached to their lackluster showing if they fail to deliver. If Soto shines like we’ve seen him do, and helps NY win, he should be elevated back to the top 2-3 in the hobby. Harper and Trout still have no rings. Acuna has 1 but was injured when ATL won. Mookie has 2, but his stardom seems to rise and fall like the stock market.
Soto would not only have 2 WS rings (one from each league) but he will have helped deliver that ring to a franchise that hasn’t won in 15 years. It would be a remarkable addition to his short career that is already HOF discussion worthy. Judge will get the hobby spotlight if NY wins, even if he is sub-par. If Judge lights it up though, his legend will grow and solidify for NY and baseball fans.
I hope it’s fun to watch, hope it delivers for each side, and I’m happy for collectors of all the greats who are playing.

I'm just glad the ship was righted on wild card teams making the world series and winning your division means something this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing Betts get another ring.

That said, if the Yankees win the World Series, it might cause Red Sox ownership to start spending again. It really feels like the rivalry has been dead for the past 15+ years. Maybe the Yankees winning the World Series will re-ignite something.

Yes awz50 is the only one on the Red Sox side of the house keeping the rivalry alive.

I'd like to see Shohei get a ring, so I'll go with the Dodgers in 6.

To be fair, the storied matchup ended when the Dodgers fled Brooklyn.

Regardless of how much anyone hates the Yankees, the Dodgers will always be the bad guy for abandoning their fans.

An All-Time match-up with those rosters. It'll be interesting to see what pitchers go lights out.

Four days between the last possible LCS game 7 date (today) and Game 1 of the WS. Has the break been that long in recent years? I don't remember it being that long but I could certainly be wrong. Taking off basically a week for both teams in this scenario is unfortunate IMO.

I can’t tell who will Win because I only know who will Lose: the bullpen. Also, let’s just get this out of the way - because the bullpen will lose the games, both Managers are obviously completely incompetent and should be fired immediately.

That does seem a little longer than past years. At least it’ll be good for Freddie Freeman’s chances of playing. Both seems should be fresh, hopefully not rusty.
