Default Will people go back to buying singles once….

With so much talk about the “junk slab” era and with everyone grading ever card they get their hands on, Will people go back to buying singles (not graded cards) once they realize all the shenanigans going on with grading companies. Will people just collect for the pure enjoyment of collecting cards? (I would like to hear from true collectors and not those that make a living selling graded cards! (Meaning those that pump graded cards because their wallet depends on it!) just want to hear real, unbiased non money making thoughts please!

I avoid graded cards whenever I can. Crack a lot of them regardless of grade.

The only slabs I buy are junk slabs or BAS/PSADNA. So much fun!

Buy and enjoy it all

2 stars out of 5 for this topic. It's going to be hard to top your "Buyer asks to ship to different address AFTER mailed" thread.

Grading is here to stay and I doubt anything will change that. If grading dies, so does the hobby. Wouldn't bother me since then maybe I could rip and collect new product, but too much money is in it right now. This is a non-regulated gambling casino right now and they have plenty of addicts currently and many new one's that they are grooming. I don't call this the "Junk Slab Era," I call it the "Let's Go! Era."

I buy 80% raw/20% graded, but send about 60% of that 80% raw to PSA to be graded.

You can be a “true collector” AND want your cards in top condition. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Grading isn’t perfect, but it’s fine for those who want to partake and isn’t anywhere close to going away. I know that’s not the answer OP wants to hear, but it’s still the truth.

I avoid graded cards like the plague. I'm not paying a premium for a shitty opinion.

If they can't detect altered cards, what good is their shitty opinion?

pretty sure more people than not already do if you go based off of comments on boards like this one. If I do buy a graded card it's for my PC and it will be in a BGS or SGC slab as I'm not going to pay a premium for a 3 letter name and I'm not convinced one company grades vastly different from any other. One may grade harder on centering while another grades harder on corners but in the end it all washes out.

I do get excited when I see a card I need for a set on ebay with soft corners but full size and in a PSA case graded 5 or 6. I know I'm gonna win that sucker for about half of raw. Baffling why someone would sell it graded and not just crack it and sell raw.

I buy all my lower end cards for my PC raw if I can find them that way, if not I'll buy an 8 and crack it and throw it in my topload binder.

For higher end cards I prefer they be slabbed. I don't really care that much about the grade, I just want them encapsulated and to know there isn't some major issue that I'm missing at point of purchase.

Also, I don't like PSA 10s. I only buy them if its a great deal or a card I've had trouble finding in a lower grade. Whenever I get the chance to replace a 10 in my PC with a fine 9 or a great 8 I take it then sell the 10.

Edited to add: I am also very happy when I find a PC card in a BGS, SGC or CGC holder because it means I get a discount!

Usually go graded for more expensive stuff ($300+) just to have them encased and authenticated. Own a few lower end cards in slabs but typically prefer them to be raw. Not really into paying extra for a PSA 10 grade

Truth. I truly don’t understand why people grade some cards. One I won for an autographed set I needed was simply graded “Authentic”. This card was three years old and worth around $40. I don’t think people are forging three year old Museum Collection autos that are worth $40.

Based on recent trends of autos+relics might not be fully "real" as some corner cutting is done, unless the relic part itself has a NHL/MLB/NFL code sticker to look up the jersey/relic object origins its hard to trust "game used items". A non-verified game used jersey relic could be a pre-season uniform variant.

It'll be funny if "team cards" get a random "relic" as card makers are trying to inflate filler team/checklist alt cards to be more "rare", maybe a piece of a game used manager/coach score card or pre-game analytics notes happens at some point "Silly Bruins goalie holds his stick in a way you can screen him and tip the puck between his legs from the stick movement angle factors" by a Leafs coach could be a funny sight

I'd be fine with slabs if they put the label on the back (I don't want to look at a label). But I can understand that would be a huge hassle when selling cards.

But it surely seems to be the Slab Junk Era with the type of cards and the amount of cards being graded today.
