Not shocked that Farhan is gone, but Posey has a very difficult job ahead and is not exactly steeped in front office experience.

Hiring Posey just seems really dumb. Maybe he's qualified but I also feel like franchise heroes always get these jobs and more often than not it turns out they are in over their head.

The Colts did something like this in the last few years - just hired a former player and fan favorite to coach. No prior experience in the position. Did Posey complete his college eduction?

The way they extended Chapman thinks that ownership pushed for it. He had a great year, but man, that contract is gonna look bad sooner than later.

First rule in sports management, if the previous guy had been setup for failure just hire another guy to take more blame so they can justify outside hiring... Giants might of taken some ideas from the Pirates
![]() It'll be funny if the next option is an outsider such as Chipper Jones, make the Braves get crushed in both batting and pitching scouting ![]() I'm waiting for the White Sox to pull a similar move, next guy pushes batters to use 34 in bats that weigh 36oz with Rob Deer as head of batting strategy ![]() |

That guy was always overrated
First rule of MLB is you never hire a card collector to run your team

Are you guys buying, selling, or holding Posey's cards? He's still got a possible Hall of Fame induction to go along with his 3 rings, 1 MVP, 1 ROY, 7 AS selection, 1 Gold Glove, WBC championship, and ownership stake in the Giants etc.
He might want to add a successful tenure as president of baseball Ops to his resume. Or maybe you're now realizing you forgot to feed the cat before heading out the door this morning. |

I personally can't stand Posey. I hate this hire. Those are independent and overlapping thoughts.

And Buster's reputation and character will both be pluses when it comes to getting the right front office & development types to come to SF. Something tells me that Buster would have handled Joey Bart a lot better than Zaidi did, for example. Last edited by mfw13; 09-30-2024 at 06:32 PM. |

The Colts hired Jeff Saturday as interim head coach half way through the season. Also, the Colts owner is a drug addict. What is the Giants excuse?

This isn't a Jeff Saturday situation -- Posey has been on the team's 6-person board of directors the last couple of years, advising the organization and helping oversee it. He's been watching and scrutinizing Farhan and baseball ops. He has a vision for the org that he wants to execute. He's a smart guy who is very goal oriented. This isn't a totally out-of-leftfield move, as former MLB pitcher Chris Young became the Rangers president of ops in 2022. He proceeded to hire Bruce Bochy as his manager and the Rangers went on to win the World Series in 2023.

This is the first negative comment I’ve ever seen about Posey. And I’m a NorCal guy and former baseball writer. It’s how you feel, so you be you. But it’s a very strange view. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by eye4talent; 10-01-2024 at 02:42 PM. |

This is BO, so who really cares what the naysayers are saying. But man, you guys are so far off the mark about Posey’s qualifications.
Posey is an intelligent guy, who played the most intellectually challenging position, and who’s been overseeing the front office from an owner’s viewpoint the past couple years. He has plenty of experience on either side of the front office. Now it’s applying that experience in a new role. As someone who’s interviewed Zaidi and went to high school with Andrew Friedman, I can tell you that you that the job isn’t so complicated that it takes a Zaidi is academically highly accomplished (MIT, Berkely masters) and had front office experience before joining the Giants, but he doesn’t understand the game the way Posey does: He mostly grew up in the Philippines, where he played baseball in an independent league of ex-pats during his high school years. That’s not the same as being a guy who won the Golden Spikes, ROY, MVP, and three World Series titles, and who has a college award named after him. Friedman is reasonably intelligent and has some swagger, but he was a slightly above-average high school player and didn’t have any front office experience when the Rays hired him. Now, people say he’s brilliant because he inherited a boatload of high draft picks in Tampa and is currently winning NL West titles with endless financial resources. If a couple of top-shelf free agents sign with the Giants because they had their team visit with the supremely accomplished Posey instead of the hopelessly nerdy Zaidi, that’s at least half the job right there. Then, he needs to make sure talent is developed properly and that trades are properly negotiated. I don’t know about the latter, but I have a strong feeling that he knows how to evaluate talent and understands developing young players better than Zaidi. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
