Default Top 10 Young Guns

Let's say base young guns in a PSA 10. What would you say is the top 10?

My list:

1. Ovy
2. Crosby
3. McDavid
4. Bergeron
5. MAF
6. Zetterberg
7. Datsyuk
8. Pasta
9. Nash
10. Matthews

Yours?

My list:

1. Ovy
2. Crosby
3. McDavid
4. Bergeron [own]
5. MAF
6. MacKinnon [sold my copy]
7. Matthews
8. Pasta [sold my copy]
9. Makar
10. Lidstrom [own]
11. Bure - honorable mention, IMHO Lidstrom had the better career and is a top 5 player at his position all time

Are we talking about value or what we would like to own?

My personal faves in PSA 10:

1. Crosby
2. McDavid
3. MacKinnon
4. Matthews
5. Stamkos
6. Selanne
7. Ovechkin
8. Makar
9. Vashilevskiy
10. Celebrini (looking to the future)

Bure and Federov gotta be way up high on this list. Both iconic.

Value, for the most part. Basically the biggest young guns overall. Personally, I'd love a Selanne PSA 10. Currently have a 9 that would not make it to a 10 if I cracked it

Do a search on eBay for sold items for each card, take an average, then put them into a spreadsheet.

Specifically PSA 10, then MAF and Bergeron are at the top for me. 03/04 is insanely difficult to gem. 7-8 is what they usually grade. 9s get a significant premium.

Datsyuk would also be up there for me.

I had to go look for myself, your honorable mention threw me for a loop, I didn't realize they had Young Guns back in the early 90s

Might have to grab a Bure now just for shiz and giggles...

Yep, with the biggest being Nicklas Lidstrom.

My favourite obscure YG:

Was a redemption set in 1997 Collectors Choice. Very condition sensitive as Iginla was the top card in the redemption cello pack so they always come with jacked up corners.

Its too bad Upper Deck dropped YG's for a few years there in the mid-late 90's.

If YG's started in 1990 how come Hasek didn't get one?

Every player didn't get a YG card back then. It used to just be 10 or 15 players per year.

Sometimes they're not even actual Rookie Cards, like Scott Neidermayer or Teemu Selanne or the Sedin's.

90-91 - OG YG's. Including Bure and Fedorov. Did not include Jagr, despite him having a RC in that set, just isn't a YG.
91-92 - YG's. But didn't include Hasek or Selanne. Included Lidstrom, who also had a RC in series 1 (super confusing haha).
92-93 - YG's. Includin Selanne and Scott Neidermayer (who's RC was actually in 90-91 Upper Deck, but wasn't a YG).
93-94 - No YG's
94-95 - No YG's
95-96 - YG's were included as a mail in subset in Collectors Choice.
96-97 - Again YG's were included as a mail in subset in Collectors Choice.
97-98 - No YG's
98-99 - No YG's
99-00 - YG's are back. Big ones are Luongo and Sedins, but their actual RC's were back in 97-98. They started being SP'd here. Only 8 players included in the subset.
00-01 - YG's really started taking off here. Much larger set. Still SP'd.

Rest is history and the set really took off here in the early 2000's. Not sure when they started including literally every rookie on the planet, think that is more recent.

Love it!

Remember when the 96-03 Flames actually had a 'Young Guns' era and failed to make the playoffs each and every year? They were so bad. Every year was a threat to move the team. Then they got Kipper...

I have 3 of those Iginlas in PSA 9. The 10 is very elusive.

Nice. I sold my PSA 9 copy recently cause I got a BGS 9.5, graded myself, which was a recent $5 eBay buy.
