Default Cleveland

For everyone hating on Cleveland (not the IX Center) where did you go exactly? Give me some names of restaurants or things you thought weren’t available to you

Since you can drive from the tip of the lake by Browns Stadium basically all the way at to Strongsville or Middelburg, and their multiple restaurants and/or breweries, within 20 minutes

Did you go to the Flats? Did you go to Ohio City? Did you go the West 6th? Did you attempt to go anywhere? Rhetoeical as you did not. You wanted the airport to be "Cleveland"

I wont be replying. I have just enjoyed all the lazy ass takes

Thanks

Ate breakfasts at Wally Waffles in Akron, suppers were pizza from Angelo’s in Lakewood and Landmark Smokehouse also in Lakewood; all places highly recommended!

I think you took what people said to heart too much. It's basically like people saying there is nothing to do in Detroit and it's not safe anywhere. It's wrong but people are ignorant.

It's what people say every time, yet they keep coming back. People are so lazy that they just want everything within a minute of the show and it all better be 5 star or else

Stayed downtown Cleveland since it was only 15 more minutes of driving than staying by the airport and still having to deal with the the traffic in the parking lot.

Cleveland was great. Most entertainment was all in the same walkable area, as opposed to here in Milwaukee where a lot of the entertainment areas are in the neighborhoods surrounding downtown. The Jack Casino wasn't the greatest, but whatever, it was fine. The only "real" dinner I went to was at Marble Room and it was fantastic and I would 100% recommend it. The atmosphere and ambiance were second to none.

Well said.

The truth is for 99% of us there isn't a single city in this country worth leaving home for. I know a few who "chased the dream" in New York, LA, or Chicago and they all came back to Cleveland eventually. Too expensive, too much traffic, etc.

Most people who say Cleveland sucks or Detroit sucks are living in places just as sucky. If there was a magical place that had everything, we'd all be there. There isn't. But much like sports, I guess it's fun to rip on the opposition.

Here's a positive story on Cleveland. We went to the Guardians game on Tuesday night and parked in the garage right next to the stadium. On the way out, everyone was so nice and actually let people out of the spots in front of them and when you had to merge from two ways to go down the ramp, it was every other car.

Compare this to the Pittsburgh game the night before where it was a free for all trying to get out and if you weren't aggressive, you'd have been in your spot until the garage closed.

I mean you are kind of biased considering you’re an Ohio die hard. The venue was mediocre. Decent but could have been much better. Traffic wasn’t the greatest. I’m an active dude who enjoys the nice walk into these shows. I went to Masthead, Brewer and Butcher, Fat Heads, did the Rock Hall, Guardians game, went to Northfield for harness racing and walked the casino, even found a nice running trail near the Best Western in Strongsville. I will say there was plenty to do. Had a solid vacation aside from just cards. Wouldn’t want it here every year. Just like Chicago shouldn’t be every year. People will get bored and sick of it.

For those that think the IX center and location for the show is great, what other Nationals have you actually attended? I think there is an awful lot of homer bias taking place.

Logistically for the show, Chicago is so much better, even though the builidng itself is not the greatest. Mass transit (bus/rail) right by the center and walkable, hotels walkable, dining at all price points walkable, even parking nearby, all right next to a MAJOR airport.

I've been to Chicago. Literally none of the things you cite as benefits matter to me. I prefer a show away from everything. I drive everywhere and don't stay in hotels, but Vrbos in residential neighborhoods. It's not home bias, it's perspective based on how we choose to approach the show/trip. My family makes a 10 day vacation out of the show. So flying in, walking everywhere and never leaving the area where the show is, doesn't fit my goals.

Cleveland used to be better under the pre-COVID IX Convention Center.

Parking and entrance wasn't an issue when 1) less VIPs were sold 2) General Admission parked and entered on the opposite side of the building.

I never remember bathroom issues previously when the IX-Center was bigger.

When the IX-Center was larger, the show was spread out better so it didn't feel as crowded.

I have stayed at the hotels across the street in Rosemont and they always seem over-priced due to the convenience. Cleveland parking is better as my car was usually right outside the entrance and you didn't have to walk forever to put bulky stuff away or wait for over-crowded stairwells and elevators to clear to leave the show. The food by Rosemont is nice, but there isn't fast food right there. I'd rather stay in Middleburgh Heights for the Cleveland show where I have lots of choices for food between that, Berea, and Strongsville.

Stayed in North Olmstead. Regular chain restaurants. Not complaining about that since it was my choice. The one observation I have about the restaurants in that area are that they are all ran own and dirty, seems like they are stuck in the 80' s or 90's. All need a deep cleaning or remodeling. And there must be a local ordinance that says all the hostesses are required to be at least 65 years old. Went to Olive Garden and the hostess had to be pushing 80.

I also stayed in North Olmstead and was happy to try Raising Canes for the first time.

Yeah, it's all perspective and preference. America is so large. I've spent enough time in NYC to know it's not for me. I much prefer the midwest, smaller cities and suburbs.

To Lawyers point, it's all in how you approach the show. If you planned for Cleveland the same way you planned for Chicago, you're probably going to be disappointed. There were definitely opportunities for improvement for the show itself, but location wise there's nothing wrong with Cleveland.

Accurate from someone that lives there, haha. I rarely dine out within the city unless it’s just DQ or Red Robin with the kids. If there’s a next time, just go north a bit to Westlake, Bay Village or Rocky River for a nicer selection of restaurants. There’s a ton of great options within 15 minutes - even nice parks along Lake Erie. The hotels in N.O. Are a great option for getting to the IX-Center quickly without staying next to the airport - especially if you look up directions going in the back way through the Metroparks instead of the highway!

My Son and I did the same at the Middleburgh Heights one. Best chicken tenders out of Chick-Fil-A, Popeyes, Zaxbys, and KFC. We went back 3 more times. And the Ice-T is like liquid crack.
