![]() ![]() Saw this on the web. Just wondered what the current status of errors is in the hobby. Would you rather have this in a PSA 10 with a conventional number, or the ungradable but super rare "too high" serial number error. The poster's comment was "Got a card kicked back from grading... stating "Do Not Grade / Will Not Grade"... All because of this error on the stamping. Way to go Panini America you'd had one job ![]() ![]() ![]()

I collect errors, not in basketball though. For me it depends on the card and I don’t know enough about this one to say what I’d prefer. If this were a marvel card, I’d probably find the error more interesting. Of note some other grading companies do grade misprints. For example CGC should.
It might depend how often panini does it. For example if Panini is messing up often and doing this over-SN all over the place, it’s not so interesting/unique as an error. But if this is one of the only ones, then it gets a boost in my view as a curiosity element. Your post made me think of an interesting hypothetical. Would I rather have a regular, say PSA 8 1986 Fleer Jordan. Or an bona fide error of it, say a wrong back with a different player (do errors even exist of the card?). I can absolutely see the argument to want a classic, normal fleer Jordan RC. On the other hand there are a lot less errors out there of that card, could even be a unique version of an iconic card. Definitely a talking piece.

If I had money and was a hobby influencer, the answer would clearly be the misprint Jordan (and let's make it an unsigned PSA 10), but there are no errors I have heard of. Maybe there is a little dot on some?
Then again you never know. Much less significant set, except the subtext of being Kobe's first pro card: there was not thought to exist a silver foil color variation/error of 96-97 Topps Stadium Club r12 until I discovered one in a lot bought out in the wild. Funny you should mention CSG.... the Kobe TSC silver currently graded and in the CSG vault. Since no one has placed a value on it (except for CSG being unwilling to ship it, because insurance unknown) I let it languish there until I can physically make it to Florida. Maybe that company will carve out a little niche among error collectors in the hobby. Okay, let's say we agree that jersey number adds being-able-to-sell-a-card to 10x price, depending on player. What if the overnumber error was actually the jersey.. say a 23/10 gold Lebron. Would that be super grail? The only gold jersey number known to exist.

If it is a Rodman Bulls card it will sell for a good amount. If it is anyone else probably not since it makes you think there is at least 26 of this variation.

The one who values true scarcity and, just as with manufactured patches, values organic errors over contrived colors. I applaud not only his hustle, but the interest he brings to collecting at the fringes.
