Default Trevor Bauer

The rumors have him finally returning to the MLB soon. It looks like the Astros might be the team that wisely picks him up.

Thoughts.

When the singular source is Holly Baylor, it's probably not much.

Astros are geniuses if truly going to sign him:
- likely still has above average stuff, check
- MLB minimum for service time, check
- Hungry, check
- PSA relevance doesn’t matter as there’s already lingering hate from trash can gate (even though only Altuve & Bregman remain), check

And if Bauer pitches well and Astros make the postseason then yeah absolute geniuses and every other high expectation team that was too cowardly to sign the guy will be kicking themselves in the arse.

Can’t wait to see what Bauer lovers are gonna do when he gets lit up if he rejoins the league

Because you absolutely know, no one will blame him if he struggles

It’s an absolutely genius move if they do it. Watching his videos, he’s better than 70% of the trash that starts MLB games these days and I have zero problem with his personality personally, though if it’s incendiary to others so be it. He’s a great dude that was done dirty and certainly deserves a chance.

Probably the best landing spot for him being everyone already hates Houston. If I were him it would be a 1 yr deal so if he does pitch well maybe he can hit the market and get a 2 yr deal be it back with Houston or another non contender because we know the big teams ( Dodgers, Yankees, Boston, Atlanta, Philly etc... ) won't touch him regardless.

Angels I think would be another good landing spot for him. They are way under the radar and very little mainstream media coverage being they suck and are on the west coast.

As much as I dislike the Astros I will give them praise for refusing to participate in group think by signing him.

How is he a great dude? Take out all of the off the field stuff, he’s a known clubhouse cancer. He ran himself out of numerous franchises for being a bad teammate.

Never forget in 2016 when he helped cost Cleveland a WS because he was too busy playing with a drone and sliced his pitching hand so he couldn’t pitch in the WS

He’s a locker room cancer.

He can stay with the Diablos Rojos. He's not coming back to MLB.

I hear this from fans all the time. But then I see Mookie Betts saying he's a great guy and a great teammate. Do you take the word of people who've never met the guy or the word of guys who played with him? And Mookie is one of the greatest human beings in MLB so I can't imagine he'd publicly endorse him if he wasn't a good guy

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say it only comes from fans. The Cleveland team and front office while he was there was very frustrated with him. Arizona admitted a big reason they traded him was clubhouse problems. Post Bauer trade, numerous members of the Cleveland front office did an interview where they expressed his problems in the locker room, going so far as to say the locker room said “they only liked having Bauer 1 day out of 5”. Essentially saying it was fine when he was pitching, but on days he wasn’t it was bad

Mookie played half a season with Bauer, it doesn’t seem that surprising to me that someone could believe they aren’t that bad when you spend what, 4-5ish months with someone. Versus players and teams who spent years and years with him. Bauer also came to the dodgers right after they won the WS, so if you told me the clubhouse was good purely from the fact of they’re still coming off the championship vibes, that would also make sense

It's also disingenuous to think people can't change. I wouldn't want to be judged by the person I was at 21 or 28 years old today.

I mean if you can’t see that he’s just as arrogant as ever, I’m not sure you’re trying to look at this objectively

Also the reds GM did an interview and he was adamant about never bringing Bauer back due to Bauer’s time in Cincy and that was months before he went to the dodgers.

So did he change everything so quickly for the dodgers?

Also maybe Mookie is just being nice and not trying to crap on a guy either.

All I’m saying is there’s a mountain of evidence of him being bad in the clubhouse/a cancer/lots of in general problems, and you’re saying basically a couple sentences of support by Mookie vastly outweighs literally everything else

That doesn’t make any sense

in AZ, I think most of the problems centered around philosophical differences in pitching/lifting/throwing programs stuff like that. And also pretty sure approach Bauer was pushing for turned out to be most correct/more widely accepted now.

This doesn't mean he's not a psychopath or anything, but I think the clubhouse cancer stuff is a little overblown relative to his potential value as a pitcher.

Like if you were to assemble a team with the best pitchers in baseball and they just happened to be the worst people alive and clubhouse cancers, you would just dominate everyone regardless. Now whether Bauer still is remains to be seen
