I have what appears to be a 24 KT gold minted card of Jerome Walton. It is of his 1990 Topps card. The card is an exact replica of the Topps card, and has no other company markings on it. It weighs a little over 6 ounces. Can anyone tell me what I have? I can't seem to find anything about it.

Sounds like the 1990 Topps Gallery of Champions box set

I looked those up. To me it looks like those are mini cards. This one is regular sized. Is there a version of this set that is regular sized?

Highland Mint did some Topps cards. I'm familiar with a 1990 David Justice version, not sure if Walton was part of it.

On a side-note,...those who were klectin'...."back in the day".....will almost certainly recall; Jerome Walton cards were a sorta' (for a relative-quick, minute) "desirable" by most klectors/traders/sellers.

Sorta? Dude, he and Dwight Smith were going to be Bonds and Bonilla, what Gunnar and Adley are becoming…until the ‘90 season came along, and that all fizzled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Interesting. I thought the guy had to have won the award for the team you're matching him with. Didn't realize it still worked with a guy like CC who won it for another team before joining the Cubs.

The player just needs to have won the award (for any team) and played at least 1 game for the other team. |

As a Cubs fan who was young at the time, I can vouch for this completely. Looking back at the stats, even in '89, I am baffled why we were so certain stardom awaited them both.

Dang thats a name I havent heard in awhile. I remember pulling his 1989 Upper Deck high number rookie in the local card shop as a kid and the store owner offering me a $10 bill for it. I still have that card to this day, just waiting until he is inducted into the HOF before I sell it. Dont want to leave any money on the table you know.

He carried '89 UD High Series from what I remember. It was white hot for a few months. Thinking Dwight Smith may have also been in there...

That ud high set was Fire! Walton, Zeile, Dwight Smith. Jim Abbott, Flash Gordon. I remember Walton being like a $15 card for a hot minute.

I don't believe this is true. Today I used Pat Kelly for the Orioles who stole 30 bases in a season (he had 40 with the Royals in 1969, 34 with the Royals in 1970 and 32 with the White Sox in 1972, but never with the Orioles. It didn't give it to me. And yes, I used Pat Kelly 1967-1981. Maybe it is true for awards but not teams?

Here is the card in question. Without having an actual gold card to hold next to it to compare, I can't tell if it is bronze or gold. It is more than likely bronze, but I'm not sure. I've looked into the 1990 Gallery of Champions cards, but those are mini cards. This card is regular-sized. I've also looked into Highland Mint, but I can't find any record of Walton ever having a Highland Mint card. I saw that they did a series around 1992-1994 of Topps cards, but can't find anything about them doing one of him. I looked at Trading Card Database, and there is nothing about a card like this of Jerome Walton. Any one else have any thoughts?

If it was gold (or even gold plated), it would be stamped on the card. Looks like a brass/bronze reprint, likely from the Highland Mint.
Looks exactly like this Dave Justice: ![]() 1992-98 Highland Mint Topps Mint-Cards - [Base] - Bronze #DJ90 - David Justice (1990 Traded) Courtesy of COMC.com |

I was assuming it was some sort of Highland Mint thing, but I can't understand why I don't see anything about it anywhere.

Because who cares? Jerome Walton is a failed prospect, they didn't sell well, and there aren't many to ask about. So is it a rarity? Probably. Does that make it valuable? No. Max value is probably $50, and you'd likely have to wait for the right buyer to come along to get that.
I would not recommend auctioning it, since it might go for $5. |
