Default 2024 Upper Deck AEW Black Diamond

Just announced by Upper Deck on social media, no details yet (price point, release date, etc.) but a little info below copied from a BO competitor who already has it listed.

I am not much a fan of BD generally as a high-end product, and like Allure it seems an awkward fit with a wrestling release. The AEW card market and interest in the promotion as a whole seems to be at a low ebb from my perspective, so pricing will be interesting as I can't imagine people will be lining up to break this at the $300/box price point that Spectrum opened up at.

I guess we may get on-card autos for the first time in an AEW set, which would be something. Not getting my hopes up too high there, though.

Configuration:

6 cards per pack.
1 pack per box.
Look for 1 Diamond Relic, Memorabilia, or Booklet Card, 1 Autograph Card, 1 Manufactured Relic Card, 1 Insert Card, and 1 Base Set Card or Base Set Printing Plate, 1 Exquisite ® Collection Card per box on average.

Some more info I found

Wrestling fans rejoice! A classic Upper Deck brand, Black Diamond, makes its AEW debut! The AEW edition of Black Diamond sports a 100-card base set (#d to 185) which features dynamic parallels highlighted by the Gold Relic (#d to 35), Autograph, and the hobby-exclusive Purple Diamond Relics (#d to 3). The Band of Color insert makes its AEW debut! Each low-#d card in this colorful set features six diamond relics, each a different color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Keep an eye out for Gemography cards! This longtime classic low-#d Black Diamond autograph insert set features top Wrestlers with a diamond relic and an autograph.

Sounds interesting at least.

Main thing I care about is updated rosters. It can't have a "summer 2023" checklist if they want people to get excited. Take an extra month and get Okada, Mercedes, and/or Ospreay included, something to make it different from all their other sets.

If it's anything like spectrum, it'll sit around for ages till it hits epack and single prices plummet

Some more info and mockups

-Copeland is in but that isn't a great indicator of HOW updated roster will be

-The Exquisite Title Belt Straps will be pretty big, the auto version /5 of MJF could end up one of his bigger cards down the line.

I've been way out of card collecting for years (I did buy a 2021 UD AEW box and wasn't quite happy with it), but I did get the itch to buy a box of this so I did a preorder for one and I'm just hoping I don't pull six Evil Uno cards. I like the design and I'm interested to see how these actually turn out. Does UD still have problems with delays on the AEW products?

$50 a card? Is there anyone on the AEW roster that you could hope to even get yoru money back out of? Seems at $300 a box this is something that probably sits on shelfs until it's 50% off.

Short answer is yes, Upper Deck has serious delay issues. I'm probably more of a AEW fan than most on this board but even I can't recommend buying AEW boxes at launch, the value just isn't there. I've purchased everything Upper Deck has released but I usually wait six to nine months (or a year), AEW boxes never hold their value because the market for singles is low and the rosters are so out of date. Its good Adam Copeland is in this one but the chances of anyone signed this year being included is basically none.

The first set that has Okada, Mone, Mariah May, and Ospreay may get some buzz but that hypothetical set may not come out until Summer 2025 at their current pace. They can never capitalize when a wrestler is hot and its a problem. Part of me hopes when WWE goes to Fanatics that Panini gets AEW as even though I have my issues with Panini at least they print fast enough that the rosters aren't a year out of date.

Ditto. I love collecting AEW, but paying premium for it at release has proven to be lighting money on fire for me. The singles market is dead dead right now unless it's a 1/1 or PMG for metal. If you're patient you can snag hobby boxes for sub 100 easily and then grab singles for pennies on the dollar

Ah, well lesson learned. Won't be pre-ordering again, kinda wish I'd have asked if it was a good idea on here before I did it. I like AEW a lot, and thought this product looked really interesting and now I'm kind of wishing I'd eaited to see how low a box of this would get after a few months.

So I should probably expect the box I preordered to not ship in October, then?

I think it would be ambitious to expect three AEW releases in four months as AEW flagship is currently listed for Aug, Black Diamond Oct., and Allure Nov. Now that doesn't mean 2/3 don't release but I could see Allure being moved up and Black Diamond back depending how many autos they've secured so far since it's on-card autos and the others are sticker, I suspect they don't want a ton of redemptions in the first release.

First real high-end AEW set though hopefully you do well, too expensive for me but a good MJF etc might end up being a really good card down the road.

Are the autos on card for this product? I just assumed they were sticker autos. That's really cool.

You're right it hasn't been confirmed my bad, I remember seeing on-card autos posted on UD's Instagram and Exquisite Collection cards if they have auto versions are usually on-card but we'll have to wait and see. I hope they are but not confirmed

So what are the odds this actually does release on the 23rd?

Blowout has this listed for 11/29 now, looks like DA had it listed for 11/15. I don't think we're gonna be seeing this set this year.

The way UD is going with these releases, I'll be surprised if it's out by spring 2025. I genuinely think only 2 releases have come out on time in the 4 years of the AEW/UD partnership

I would guess they try to push this out being the first real "high-end" AEW set, and push 2024 Allure/Skybox etc to 2025 although I could be completely wrong.

Sometimes I wonder (but doubt) if any contract disputes are holding up sets, say Miro is supposed to be in the set and request release....do they remove him. Even worse if he has autos is he signing the stickers? Small example but compared to WWE it never seems you have full confirmation who is actually on the AEW roster.

The checklist dropped. There are some really cool booklets and it looks like the hard signed AEW Autographs line is debuting in this product. I might preprder another box or two and see what happens.

Checklist is definitely intriguing, Okada, Ospreay, and Mone all included. Probably will just grab singles of nicer autos.

Some really cool stuff in there. I’m really intrigued by the Exquisite cards.

I don't have a problem with the other names but......Luther? lol

I do like the idea of limiting the on-card autos to different sets like having Bryan/Toni headline this then maybe Mercedes/Ospreay in another, then Mox/Britt in another don't know if it's ever been done and a cool concept that is a unique way to get people to buy different products. Can still do an all on-card high end set, but the AEW line could be spread across multiple products
