Default Ebay spamming searches with cards of other players.

Anyone else getting this? I search Garnett and get 50 auctions that aren't Garnett. So annoying, what is ebay doing?

Anyone figured out how to stop this?

Just eBay being eBay. A horribly run company for exactly forever. I don't think there is a way to stop it, but I have seen the same.

It's people putting other names in the item specifics, either accidentally forgetting to update from other listings or purposely trying to get more views.

Its the sellers doing it, usually.

Yeah, I've noticed this happening a lot more lately with my searches.

Every time I search "LeBron James auto", most of them are not LeBron cards. I have to set my search to like $500+

It's gotten noticably worse the past year or so. I'm on there part of the day, every day of the year and it is glaring. Also Ebay's search algorithm has gotten REALLY bad. They tweaked it in the last year or two and now searching for Joe Shmoe 2021-22 Flux or whatever seems to be an OR-based search where it just returns Joe Schmoe+Flux or whatever.

I tried flagging a ton of these search manipulating listings where they list 20+ players and all of them came back "we have investigated and found no violations", wtf ebay, your terms are right there gor all to see.

At least give us a checkbox to search only titles. Ebay has the worst search functionality I have ever seen. It's like they intentionally make it hard to find specific things and they don't give us any complex logic for specific boolean searches either. Absolute trash.

Yes it's gotten worse in recent times. I've had to re-do some of my saved searches because they started returning terrible results. We have no choice but to just deal with it.

Yeah it’s gotten a lot worse recently. No idea what they’re thinking can’t even find what you’re looking for anymore. Yeah I get more “impressions” but the conversion rate is a joke, that and paid promotions are such a gimmick. It’s like they want you to promote more and show up in non-relevant searches.

For some, it would be better if eBay had a way you could clear out all details at once to prevent the accidental ones

try sorting by Lowest Price or Newly Listed, a lot of times with Best Match it gives you a whole list of garbage that isn't actually what you're looking for

I'm literally seeing 50 auctions in a row without Garnett in the title. As others have said, this is new.
And I've been here since 2012 and on ebay since 2005, so not new.

99% of the time it's the details where they're listing every top 50 current player as the player for some random ass Nikola Jovic card. A ticker for "search title only" would solve most of the issue but they don't want to actually fix anything.

i guess you find these listings because the seller just spams names of legend players into the item description/description text

He's obviously using other terms besides just "Kevin Garnett". Here's an easy demonstration. Lebron Color Blast. You wind up with a Harden, a Steph, an AD, and Sahith Theegala (whoever tf that is). Half of those aren't color blasts either. You'll notice in the details the seller put parallel description is Color Blast or features ="color blast style". So the search is basically mining all details. The Steph is a revolution draft pick card but its got Lebron, Steph, and Andrew Wiggins listed as the players. The Harden has literally 17 different players listed.

Now search for Lebron Flux Scope and tell me how many of those results are Scope cards? Hell most of them don't even have search term manipulation like the above examples. This is an example of Ebay's algorithm just redesigned to give you garbage results to rack up "impressions". Years ago it would only return the actual scope parallels. Now it returns straight up base cards. Yeah it works to return only scopes if you remove Flux, but then you have to add -select -prizm -optic. Lebron Flux Scope in a perfect search engine would be Lebron AND scope AND flux. But eBay decided it should be some weird combo of Lebron AND (Scope OR Flux). And its not even a straight OR either, it's obviously some weighted garbage where its doing some sort of Lebron+"Scope Flux" OR "less Scope but items people who look for this also clicked on that were a partial search match".

It's ass.

You could well be right, I only use the word Garnett, and the titles don't have that in them, but could be in the description.

It probably happens half the time, then randomly you get 50 cards in a row or some hockey team photo from 1970 without Garnett in the title.

All good, doesn't seem like there's a solution anyone has found.
Screw ebay.

It's most likely sellers, not ebay, either intentionally or accidentally putting the wrong player in the search filters.

The player spam is sellers. The fuzzy match on set terms is Ebay's search algorithm.

My favorite is when I look at Sold Listings of a player in PSA 10 and eBay hits you with a "Is this what you're looking for" active listing of a card with jacked up corners and creases with an option to "or continue to sold listing".

eBay does it with Sealed Product too …. another sign of how out of touch they are with their own customers. If I’m looking for a particular Mega Box, I get shown options from different years and companies mixed in with ‘the real search’ …. like I’m stupid, and any Mega Box should be fine

This annoys the hell out of me. I was looking for a specific card than I saw a great price then saw the name is different. Good for seller because I get offers out of the blue.
