Default Grading companies

I know psa and bgs are the 2 big dogs-they have the strongest lock on the market and many are very loyal to either or both. I'm personally not a fan of the psa label look, looks like designed on a 1980's dos program imo. That said, both seem to hold the highest value due to customer preference.
My question, what other companies are moving up into a possible competition-have good reputation for their grading, pricing and market value? Where are companies like sgc ( cant recall other companies offhand) seen by collectors/hobby/sellers? Will any others ever reach psa/bgs level status?

I don't think BGS is that popular anymore. CGC and SGC have gained ground. PSA seems far to reach at this point and the preferred grading company. I don't think this accounts for the differences in sports cards versus gaming cards grading.

This is a better graphic breaking down the sports/non-sports. For baseball PSA is tops with SGC and then Beckett for last year's submissions.

BGS is 3 or 4 at this point. I'd say it's the big 1 now with PSA and SGC is a distant second. CGC and BGS fighting for the leftover scraps

Not a grader nor do I like it, but from my observations, PSA is king, SGC big for vintage, CGC big for nonsports especially marvel and gaming cards (and also gaining some ground for modern sports), and BGS seems to be behind in a lot (the quality of slab is nice if a bit bulky, one thing that really hurts it is the Gem Mint not being 10.0, but 9.5- collectors and flippers dont like that, which CGC realilzed real quick and changed their system to match that).

Highly recommend watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUvKMsvhQBA

If you're not a fan of what the PSA label looks like, I'd strongly recommend SGC for cards that you're considering PCing. SGC is rapidly picking up ground on BGS in terms of resale value, too.

There's also TAG, which uses AI to grade cards. I've never used them before, but people seem to like them a lot. I could see them exploding in popularity over the next few years.

PSA laps everyone else

SGC is good for fast turnaround but their slabs are very bulky and unattractive

CGC has the best plastic in the game

BGS is dead

TAG jumping from $15/card to $30/card for their 1000-point scale seems like a poor business decision. Should be $20/card at most.

The slabs are nice though.

Also CGC is in the midst of scandal on the comic book side where they are the PSA of comic books. Apparently you are able to open a CSC comic slab and replace the comic with a lower grade one without anyone being able to tell that is was tampered with

I don’t know about CGC but this is right

BGS is garbage

PSA is king and there isn’t a close second

SGC is popular however

The rationale behind the price increase is because they were getting too much volume at the lower price. For a period of 2-3 weeks were "sold out" of TAG S since they did not have the capacity to continue accepting orders.

If you want the 1,000 point scale and are price conscious, you can get bulk subs of TAG S for $24 with a minimum of 25 cards.

I only grade for my PC and not for resale, but I will only use TAG or SGC.

"too much volume"?

they are in invisible grader, they should only hope to get "too much volume"

Reminds me during covid when everyone was a grader. Example: Bob's basement grading company.

What was the design your own label one? Was that different than the AI one? Or the one that could grade your 100 cards in 36 hours?

They all blend together

They used the gimmick of matching the card color with the slab.

It was a good gimmick. They are the only slabbed cards I like the look of. But I don't own any or any graded cards anymore so I don't care.
