Default FOTL Questions

I'd like to grab an FOTL product or two this year and been doing some research as to how they work. I get that it's a game of chicken and you don't know when they'll sell out or what the floor is, but you can make an educated guess based on regular hobby boxes as to where they may end up. Without having participated in them I would appreciate some input:

1. How do you guys prepare for the FOTL offerings, check Panini.com for their calendar, start looking one week before regular hobby boxes drop, etc.? Do they always start at the same time of day, i.e. 12:00pm?
2. Will FOTL move over to Fanatics with them acquiring more licenses or will Panini continue to have some?

Knowing what I know now the posts about floor and why people got them or missed out make much more sense.

FOTL is a gimmick that nobody really cares about. Honestly it's a huge waste of money

Very funny. I wouldn't say *nobody* cares because they do sell out every time.

...or you're trying to keep another person from hunting for your boxes!

New to FOTL, yes. New to grammar, no.

It seems as though the pricing of FOTL rarely drops below the presale price of the same product's hobby box on the Big 3s websites. Therefore, check the presale prices of the hobby boxes to get a general idea of where the FOTL sell out price will be. You have to decide for yourself if the pricing is a coincidence or a scam.

Indeed. I just think the aftermarket pricing on the FOTL boxes is outrageous (much like regular hobby boxes) and I was going to try and get 1-2 for the products I really wanted this year. Not for resale, for me.

1. The app will tell you when the auction starts for upcoming products.
2. FOTL is a Panini gimmick but I believe Topps has done something similar in the past. We can only hope Topps doesn’t execute it how Panini does if it comes to that.

OP: please understand many sharper folks who have followed the hobby for a while believe very strongly (with good reason) that panini FOTL auctions are manipulated, and that’s putting it nicely.

Buy what you want obviously, but buyer beware. There’s a lot of shenanigans with panini football products or prices would never be what they are so be careful. Sincerely mean that. I won’t touch FOTL auctions. Pretty much scam pricing

Breakers and youtube 'infliencers' push FOTL. Often, you pay more for less

Shimmers are much less desirable for Prizm despite the low serial #.

Contenders is the worst product to buy FOTL. As their exclusives limit/remove ability to get serial # rookie ticket autos (RZ exclusives).

This is the best time to buy singles. Not the best time to buy boxes.

Please bring us back to 2017, back when you could get National treasures Fotl boxes for $500. Prizm Fotl boxes for $120.
I'm more & more grateful everyday for the breakers

I'll definitely keep all of your opinions in mind. I'm not against buying singles--as a matter of fact I just bought a bunch on ebay hoping PSA grades them high (another scam, I know, I know). I just miss being able to grab a hobby box at a much lower price. I won't touch any of the sky high ones, and I wish the prices were coming down. Completely wrong direction.

Case in point: I'd love to get a Bowman's Best U hobby. I grabbed the Bowman Chrome ones over Xmas for under $100 each and got some solid hits, but would love a Harrison auto. It's more likely I'll just buy the auto and avoid the base cards. Just not the same.

Ok the Bowman U/Bowman Best U is COMPLETELY different than panini FOTL products. I’ve bought and ripped a ton of bowman u and u best. Awesome stuff, fairly priced, and there’s this key thing called VALUE for what you pay on a consistent basis. Foreign concept to any panini product especially FOTL auctions

I know this isn't FOTL, but anyone want a laugh?

That's right, it's a blaster.

Define 'loaded'. Having fotl exclusive foils/prizms/parallels does not make them more valuable than the desired hobby versions. Yes, serial #'d is likely less, but doesn't make them more chased.

One caveat is Select, as their Orange Pulsar RPA exclusives are actually a good deal.

I think the biggest thing to consider is what the FOTL exclusive is and whether or not it replaces cards from non-FOTL boxes.

I think it was 2022-23 Panini One and One Basketball where the only cards in the boxes were FOTL exclusive cards.
